Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

Hi, first of all, sorry about my english, I'm from Mexico and I have been reading this post since I ordered my MB retina display on September 19th and it arrived on september 28th, of course the first thing that I did was to check the make of my display, it is a LG, and I made all the tests and tried to reproduce the image retention but I couldn't, after that I played a little with the Mac OS because this is my first Mac laptop and I was surprised how good it is, I mean it is amazing!!!, this laptop is the best that I ever had.

I had been a Sony Vaio customer for many years, but since the Iphone 3G appeared, I became an apple fan, then came the supperb Iphone 4 and I was amazed about its construction quality and the beautiful retina display. One year ago I bought my last laptop from Sony, and it is a great laptop with top of the line componets, gorgeous HD screen end bluray burner (I love to edit HD videos and to produce movies on blurays and avchd dvds), but one day my messenger bag with my laptop in it fell from my shoulder (about two feet high from the floor) and the laptop got a big crack on one of the corners, and I felt really angry about the poor quality construction, fortunately I had a 3 year accidental damage warranty and it got repaired one month later, but since then I turned my sight to an Apple product (because of the construction quality)  that could fill my needs and I waited until the Macbook Pro Retina Display appeared.

So I finally ordered it two weeks ago and I got it last Friday (septembre 28th), since then I have been using it, and I'm really happy about my descision, this is by far the best laptop on the market, it is amazing!!!!, the SSD (flash) is super fast (reading and writing), believe me, the boot times are wonderful, graphic card really powerfull (HD Video Editing), opening programs the fastest I've ever seen, and of course the amazing resolution of this display, WOW...

So five days later, NO IMAGE RETENTION, NO DEAD PIXELS, I'm really sorry about you all people with bad screens, but this laptop had been PERFECT  at least until now, I hope it stills like this for many years...

For all the people who are hesitating to buy or not a macbook pro retina display, my advice is this, do not miss the opportunity to have the best laptop that ever existed, It is the best MAC OS X laptop but it is the best Windows laptop too.. I installed windows yesterday with all the engineering programs that I use for work (I'm Civil Engineer)  and my god, what a great performance.

And finally, today I spend two hours editing and organizing all my pictures and it is a real pleasure doing it with this screen...

    Week 38

    2.7 Ghz

    16 GB Ram

    750 Gb Flash SSD

By the way, the colors of the screen on MAC OS are a little yellowish, but on Windows are really crisp and beatiful, so I did a color calibration on MAC OS and now are really great... I Think the yellowish color is a driver or configuration issue...

    Go for it!!!

So which screen manufacturer do you have? LG or Samsung? It seems like you received an LG because of the "yellowish tints" you mentioned. If it really is the case then I would highly advise you to exchange/return it to avoid IR progressing in the near future. It may not appear as of now but it will be visible within weeks or months after usage.  I personally experienced this problem after 2 months since purchase and as soon as I tried the test I could get it to appear less than a minute on the default desktop wallpaper or extremely visible on a dark grey background. Also, welcome to the Mac world! I also initially used a Sony Vaio Z computer before transitioning to Macs and I must admit that no other competitor can match this wonderful operating system and elegance in design.

Guys, so what's the current situation, ordering a rMBP now makes sense? Is it confirmed that the new ones (week 40 in chipmunk) are all Samsungs?

I don't think anyone has received a chipmunk week 40 yet, but week 40 appleserialnumberinfo has been shown to contain at least 1 LG in the batch. We are still playing a lottery essentially.

That said, my damaged machine (LG) is not showing any noticeable IR in the first 24 hours. I'm less concerned about IR than physical damage now. If the next one is damaged I will be getting a refund.
