Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

Just got mine, week 39-40 (depending the website )

    Order it from apple Belgium

    rMBP 2.6

    RAM 16

    500 Go

I'm about to open it. Wish me luck !

I went to an Mac line store in Brussels ( premium reseller ) and the only big one in Belgium cause we don't have apple store here. And they told me they cannot do ANY kind of repair on any apple device that they always send them back to apple.

So I went yesterday and told them about the retina problem and that if I was going to get a LG screen I would bring it for screen replacement, first they told me that they were NOT AWARE of any kind of problem such as this one and that all the apple product were PERFECT in all aspects !!! (I hate apple geeks)

The funny part is that prior to that I check the retina they had in display and it was an LG, so I showed him the problem, just went looking for a grey background on google->full screen and here you go, you could see SO MUCH the calendar and half of the icon from the desktop, the the guy had the balls to tell me that it was a "normal feature" of the screen because apple use a high end technology for making the screen SO MUCH better than any of his competitors and that was normal it will fade with a little time !

So I kind of got mad and started arguing strongly with the guy and left.

Bottom of the story it look that I will have it in the A** if I get a LG screen cause it take 3 WEEK so they can send it to apple and get it back from any store in Belgium !!!!!! Thanks !

Any advice on what I should do ?

Does anyone ever got a good LG screen ????

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello,

Today I spoke to apple again, This time around the person whom I spoke with was friendly and forwarded my call to apple senior advisor. She was friendly and understanding but was offering me only 1 solution that is repair. I kept telling her repair isn't solving this issue as there is a risk of same problem arising again. No luck Im tired of this I will go for my first repair and see how it goes. if it doesnt work  out ill  email Tim Cook

P.S : Surprising how this thread has 0.35 million hits already

Okay, Went today to two different stores. One had a Samsung screen, the other had an LG.

The Samsung screen looks indeed very bright and fonts seem to look better (like printed on the screen) However it seems a it over saturared, and I noticed few dead pixels and some white spots.

Then went to the other store and checked the LG out. I can regonize the LG right away from it's own color tint. Honestly if there wasn't any IR I would like the LG better. It seems to have deeper blacks and better color saturation.

Then I changed the desktop background to grey and at first it was shocking! I saw a few pages burned in. Also the mages from the static docks (which I changed to "hide") mostly the calendar where burned in even with clear colors. It looked ugly.

However in just a few minutes 90% of it dissapeared and in 5 minutes the screen was all clean again.

I know in this store this particulair model is there for 2 months already on from 10 till 10 daily. Makes me wonder is this IR then really "that" bad if it dissapears for 90 a 95% in less then 2 mintues?

It would be hard to make a choice between IR and better color saturation (and better blacks).

Also the LG seems to have better vieuwing angles.

I've had mine since release, I'm on it about 16 to 18 hours a day, and I never had any display problems.  Last night, after several months, suddenly I'm getting it as well.  Thrilling...

@ JDThree, I assume this is happening on an LG Screen?  Can you confirm this?

    Thanks.

You can read my experience under my replies in this forum. In a nutshell, can you reconcile the fact that a display with ghosting problems can be considered high quality?

DB-5, googled to find out how to see it, ran the termianl, and yep, it's an LG screen.  My problem is I use this every day, and I don't have another I could replace it with while it's off for Apple to fix...  I may just have to put up with it.
