Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I ordered an rMBP 2.3/16/512, and I should have it next week or the week after?.  I will post back when I know what screen I received. I hope it is a Samsung. A LG is going back.

This is the correct approach. If you have any doutbts visit an Apple Store and check some of the LG retinas. All doubts will disappear.

How much you want to bet the Apple store has still got mostly the original rMBP's out on display they received?   My point is going by your comment, we assume nothing has changed and everything is the same as when this thread first started.

Your tone suggests he has the problem. He in fact is doing the right thing if he's decided that rmbp with a working screen is what he wants. He hasn't convinced himself of anything. Apple has convinced him that 1, the LG's all have problems that will either show up within 14 days or maybe 14 weeks but the IR WILL show up. 2, Apple can't be trusted based on various posts in this thread of apple staff saying "we can't help you".

Just thought that i would share my story here.

I used to keep up with this forum before i ordered my computer and while i waited for it. But i got my laptop in august (late august), and i use it probably some 10 hours a day, 7 days a week for college. I did play BF3 on it for about 8 hours before school got really into it.

I have had it for over 7 weeks. I have tested it for IR repeatedly, usually under OSX and not windows because it's easier to test under OSX, it's a LG display; NO IR at all yet (tests usually last up to or over an hour)

It's no safe to assume that "all LG's have IR" like some of you like to say

There are only a few thousand people on here, and several million macbook pros sold, there will be problems with a few of them.

Anyway, just my two bits

Yet you've stuck around so long even though you apparently have a flawless rMBP. You don't even like the tone of this thread. I think there's a name for this thing when someone with no particular interest in the discussion, yet posts comments that would attract responses.

The tone of this thread is not helped when people with image retention problems that affects the usability of their computer are told by some at Apple that it is normal and you will have to deal with it even though no Samsung displays have the issue.  If Apple would simply replace these displays without hesitation (and not replace it with another bad display) then everyone would be happy.

I think most people here are not going out of their way to look for a problem.  I was not looking for a problem when I saw my email text still on the screen after I closed the window.  If you see what some of these screens look like with image retention you would be very upset.

It will show up. Just in the last couple of days we had two reports from July customers who are just now noticing IR and that means upwards of 10 weeks.

Out of the box, 2 weeks, 7 weeks, 10 weeks... but it will happen. Even Apple admits that it is the "norm", not an exception.

Exactly. I would never have Google'd this problem if I didn't notice it in every day average use. But there are people who are afraid of the problem arising later, and rightfully so, as that is what appears to be happening. I didn't notice IR until mid August (I got the laptop in June) and we're now in October and it's so severe that when I close this webpage that I've had open for about a minute, I'll be able to read the response above this one straight off of my desktop.

Long time I suggested that people stop posting to this thread and create scores of questions involving various conditions that were not acceptable to respond in the nature of this forums.  This was exteremly helpful if you were doing a search you could find numerious examples to see what solved or helped solve there failure or problem instance.  But this thread is too vast to be useful anymore.  You can't do a useful search against it. You can't go back and look at but a few dozen of your posts by message history.   Apple created a nice support forum, but trying to use this question forum for a continous debate back and forth about this IMHO is only useful to people who continually champion their opinion on here.

There is no debate on getting a computer serviced for something that creates a visual or interferring fault to one's usage of said computer.

I agree but I think the problem is is there would be a lot of independent threads started all basically asking what they should do.. so instead we have all those duplicated questions piled into this single thread.  If something is of some use outside this scope it needs to be in a seperate thread such as what I did when I posted a message a few days ago comparing a retina MBP screen(Samsung) to a 2010 MBP screen.

Yes, because I'm planning to buy one (the fourth) soon as it's safe. You on the other hand have a "perfect" machine and yet feel the need to "participate".

I'm also helping forum users with other problems completely unrelated to this in two dozen other threads.
