Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

Everyone is different, and you fail to accept this.

Errrr Not at all. I just don't see what that statement has to do with I said.  I'm just making an observation that churning through several different computers doesn't seem to be working for most and instead is simply magnifying a lot of frustration and anger without getting satisfaction.

Just got a Week 40 BTO rMBP (2.3/16/768) and it's an LG screen (sad).

Out of the box, I don't see any image retention, and I've done the checkerboard test, grey background, no screensaver, etc. 

From what I read here, even if I don't have the problem now, it will appear eventually.

Don't want to go through the hassle of returning / exchanging / arguing for a refund, but I guess I have no choice.

How can i find out the production week?

I don't want to be too optimistic here, but maybe there is still hope that lates LG are improved and will not exhibit the problem? I mean it's not like all IPS screens suffer from image retention, also not all LG screens (external displays etc) do, so why would it be retina-defined problem?

And what is your screen panel serial number?

UPDATE:

Just got a call from an apple employee telling me that my ordered rMBP got lost on it´s way to Europe. They are building it again today in Asia, so looks like i will get one from the newest production week. Any suggestions if they are still using the fubar LG Panels?

I just ordered two rMBP in Apple Europe. Should have them by Friday, will report as soon as I get my hands on them. Hope they will be fine.

Well, I had it with the horor stories and I ordered my g75. Hopefully Asus knows what they're doing.

You can't say I didn't give you enough time to show some ethics Apple and take responsibility for your defective product in a consistent and transparent way. I don't think it's expecting too much to ask you to be honest and ethical.

It would have gone like this, dear public, we screwed up, this is what we're doing to resolve it and we have stopped selling the defective computers in question. We've also instructed our stores to stop treating our valued customers like moron and telling them things like we can't see a problem and the computer is within specs and to put on screensavers on within 2 minutes and to stop looking at the screen improperly and to stop holding the laptop incorrectly etc etc.

I'll try again in a few years apple, hopefully by then you'll have figured out how to make the computers more than just sleek and pretty and more than what is on a spec sheet and hopefully you'll have weeded out the so call "employees" that are lacking in ethics.

I really feel for you guys that seem to be married to Apple. I on the otherhand am married to "tech", I don't care who makes it.

I belong to the unfortunate rank who's married to Apple due to nature of work.  I fully agree with you on your "message" to Apple and I do hope that Apple is not so washed out with success that they forgot about people who made it possible in the first place: their customers.

It is ok to admit and make good manufacturing defects.  It is not ok to think that they can get away with defective products and waive the problem by calling a defect "normal".

Sorry, but I don't get this. You're saying that the G75 and the rMBP are essentially equivalent in everything except the displays, and you're using the display as the only differentiating factor in your decision. They aren't equivalent systems.

I got my rMBP for a number of reasons, and honestly, the Retina display was only one of them. I wanted to get off Windows most of all. But I also wanted the overall package of technology, and performance, and form factor, and the ecosystem, too. So getting a system which has IR was disappointing to me, but didn't detract from the other factors which were involved in my purchase. And, in and of itself, having the slight IR on this display wouldn't be sufficient to make me want to go back to a Windows platform. Apple has been good to me in terms of getting a replacement system, which I have yet to see. I didn't get any real pushback in the process. I'll have to see what they send me before I pass judgement. Your experience may have been totally different, but I don't understand why you'd abandon an OS/X system for a Windows system just because you have IR on your screen. Is the display really that critical a factor to you, with everything else being that much less important?

In a way you are right, and the fighter in me would normally never just accept it and fight till the end. However I really need to continue my work and I desperately need a computer.

However I will make a agreement with my contact at customer relations that if IR start to reach a point it really bothers and/or affect my work I want a repair.

Secondly, I start to get second thoughts about batteling for a Samsung. My first one was a Samsung, but it had deadpixels in a week, and it seemed to be a progessive thing. Secondly, I think I like the LG screen's better.

Last word, It isn't I accept total flaws, but in my opinion the machine isn't that "flawed" In all other aspect it is really the most incredible computer I've ever owned and it speeded up my workflow in a dramatic way. I love the portability.

The IR ***** but if it is something that dissapears in a few minutes it is something I can accept. If it get's worse I will fight for a repair.

Bottom line is, I really need a computer now, and since I am far from home (I am at the other side of the world) I need a protable powerhouse. There aren't any alternatives.

Don't put words in my mouth, it's a very weak way of making your point.

However, YES the RETINA is the only reason I had the rmbp at the top of my list. Unlike some people, I'm open to the idea that different companies might be able to work for me. I'm not open to the idea of buying a broken computer just so I can say I have an "Apple". Don't forget, I ended up here for a reason, I wanted one. One that not only worked but one that I would be sure would be fixed. Based on the experiences of the people in this thread I wasn't assured of either.

If you check the specs, you'll see that in some respects the G75 is better.

With the absence of retina, g75 17" is what I'll need with my eyes. I'm currently using a 20" notebook.

Form factor, ecosystem.....really? for a defective computer, form factor is all it has going for it from my perspective. I don't care how pretty the Porche is, if the windshield ***** and is affecting my driving, the car *****.

You talk about you you you, I don't care if IR is no problem for you in a response to me and why I moved on. It was key for me, if IR works for you,  all the power to you.

Apple has been good to you? Fantastic. Should that mean something to me?

Lastly, I don't have this hate on for either platforms, I choose to make up my own mind up. I didn't abandon anything, I would have been coming from Windows, I don't care about Windows or Apple or Linux in some sort idiotic us against them way. If it works it works. If the rmbp worked I would have bought it  at double the price of the g75, because of the retina. If I could have bought a new 17" mbp minus the retina/IR risk but with all the other specs of the rmbp I would have bought that but I didn't have that option. The only choice was the 15" rmbp which to me is defective right now. At the very least, production for this thing is broken, even if the technology is sound. Not to mention Apple's handling of the situation is minor league in my books.

I get it, good luck. I'm actually hoping apple straightens things out and I can try it out one day.

Why didn't wait for the Zenbook U500VZ? That is really a sexy beast from what I've seen on the pictures.

LOL, don't spoil my purchase   To be honest, in searching I came up with a few solid alternatives, never found a thing about the zenbook u500, probably because it's not out yet. I guess I could cancel my order before it lists as shipped, I'll have to read some more right now. Issue for me might be the 15" in just looking at it lightly.
