Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

I don't want to temper your expactations or be the party pooper, but mine was number 330 from week 40/41 and it was a LG. Since yours is only 9 productions further most likely it will be an LG.

The good news, it is a very good LG. No backlight bleed, no dead pixels, no colorshifts. And so far no IR.

Production week: 39 - built to order

    LG panel

No IR yet - will keep an eye on it though.

All in all, I have to say I'm happy with the unit, that is not to discount anyone here....I will definitely be watching for any signs of trouble.

Those with yellow Samsung screens. Can't it be that when you get a replacement screen (from LG to Samsung) Apple doesn't load the right calibration file?

This is an excellent point.  When the repair guys replace a screen, I'm sure that's all they do.  They never think that the computer was originally calibrated for an LG screen and has to be recalibrated for a new Samsung screen.

I am seeing a drop in the number of new machines arriving with Samsung screens.  It's almost like all of the Samsungs have been diverted to be replacement screens.

Got my first RMBP 3 weeks ago from the Apple Online Store, it was an LG. I called apple and asked them to send me a replacement due to a small scratch near the trackpad, it also showed faint IR.

I was considering just asking for a refund, dont have the time or patience to keep replacing the computer. I´m glad I gave it another try. Just got my replacement yesterday a week 40 on appleserialnumberinfo/week 39 on chipmunk, and its a Sammy.

I am so glad to hear that so many of you get Samsung panels as replacement. I hope I won't be disappointed when I pick up my replacement next week.

Had my Macbook Pro for 1,5 months now, it's an LG. Till about 3 days ago no signs of IR. First signs started and only got worse. I called Apple support and they agreed to send me a new Laptop. If this is an LG i won't hesitate to call again and get it replaced untill i get a Samsung display.. I paid WAAAY to much to not get a functional display..

BTW, Since i won't be having both laptops at the same time, is it possible to place a backup on an external hard drive and use migration assistant on my new macbook?

    thanks!

    You are right.

All my former rMBP's are send back with a reason.

1: Samsung screen. Dead pixels after a week. Loose bottom plate with sticking out screws. Loud cracking sound when lift up.

2: LG Screen. Uneven color, missaligned trackpad. Light IR

3: LG Screen. Mura, Dead pixel, Stuck Pixel. Loud crack when moving the display LID. Buldging trackpad

4:(my final one) LG Screen. NO dead pixels, Perfect color and backlight. No cracking, No Cosmetic damage. So far no IR.

It seems the quality control improved. I have a good hope since yours is from the same production line (339, I have 330) yours be as good as mine.

Despite all the negativity, I am still blown away by this amazing laptop. I experience truth desktop performance in an amazing light, thin package. And yes the retina simply looks awesome!

Make a time machine backup. Then indeed u can get it all back with migration assistant.

In what way IR showed? With a test or with simple daily tasked? And in what way it got worse?

Is it possible to run a timemachine backup on a regular external hard drive?

I knew the problem excisted but decided not to look for it. But when using maya (which has a dark grey interface) i noticed ghosting images of previous opened websites. So in daily use, then ofcourse i did some test and the problems then really showed up. Now i see image retention after 1-2 mins. This obviously is unacceptable

As an update to my story, I checked my repair online to see the status and it showed up as "Repair Cancelled". I was pretty bummed but also confused since it had been a week and I hadn't received my laptop back. Today I got my laptop back and assumed that it wouldn't be repaired. I was wrong! Here's the sheet:

    Item:

    620-5812

    Description:

    Display Module

    Symptom:

    Distorted/Blurred/Focus Video Issue

I ran the terminal command and got LSN! The screen looks great. As others have mentioned I have noticed the screen is slightly yellow (I think the average user wouldn't notice). I tweaked the color up to 7500 and things look pretty good to me. Pretty happy with this ending.

Best of luck everyone and just because you didn't get the part number everyone else is getting doesn't mean you won't get Samsung.
