Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

I'm 2 months in, had slight IR after 2nd week.  Hasn't changed or gotten worse.  Love the computer.  If the screen should go south, I'll take it in.  But its great now.

Just got my 6th one. Week 43, LG with image burn. My goodness this is frustrating. Are they still making Samsungs?

I wonder if the 13" will be any better.

Of course it won't. But still they'll claim is the best of the best of the best 13" they had ever dreamed of.

What? You don't enjoy the mandatory picture in picture feature?

But it doesnt say if Samsung is going to continue provide apple with panels or not. samsung now only claims that it did not cut the cord but the possibility is that Apple actually did something which still makes MBPr being without Samsung :-(

nowhere does it say that Samsung will continue provide Apple with panels.

    @Canuck1970

That would fit what was going on with mine too. The first screen got really bad on a day when the AC was basicly out in my office, and I was having to run a bunch of stuff in the background while working.

The second one went bad after Borderlands 2 came out.... lol

The third one was just bad from the start.

And the fourth one wasn't that bad until I started playing games on it when I think about it.

So, is anyone brave enough to try one of these new 13" rMBPs?

I'm curious to see if they have IR. It would be very encouraging to find out that they don't, because it would confirm (A) that the technology can be made to work IR-free and (B) that the IR problem with the 15-inch rMBPs are limited to a large bad batch that Apple is trying to unload on customers.

Things are finally set in motion for me. I went to two Apple Service centres in my hometown in India. One of them acknowledged the issue but wasn't "certified" to work on Retina Display MBPs. The other one took a bit of convincing to acknowledge the issue. I also got through to AppleCare in Singapore. They were quite prompt in recognizing the problem after seeing the video.

They have ordered a new display for me. It should arrive in a week and they will then go ahead and change the display for me.

While talking with AppleCare in Singapore, the person did admit that Apple is well aware of the IR issue. And then he shut up like a clam realizing that I was trying to probe for more details.

Hey friends, this is my first post on the boards.

I am a college student and sold one of my kidneys for one of these machines.  I absolutely love everything about the retina screen, except the major IR problem!  I read other forums about hte issue and passed it off as an over reaction, until one day when I left Spotify on to play some music and came back to the screen burned into my next desktop background.  Yikes!

I travelled into town to the Apple store and they sent me back ot my campus store to get a replacement, which I just did today.  Came home and found out that it was another LG screen...did the IR test and sure enough, day one, signes of moderate IR. Ugh!

So my question is, does this get worse or does it get better?  I seem to have read some differeing opinions on the matter and I am wondering if anyone has come to a consensus.  Also, I have read stories of people exchanging machine after machine.  That's a real pain in the behind, but is that the only option (other than just living with it?)  Some people are reporting LG after LG time and time again...

    Thanks for all the feedback!

    Dude, I like your approach!

Are you also on the other site set up for this? You know, the one that rhymes with "ace crook"?

If not, you should be, and you should be an admin on it.
