Nevertheless, as you might have inferred from my spiel about standards and specifications, I do still believe that Apple is being dishonest about IPS panels and image retention. There are some objective measures of performance and even for perceptual things such as display performance requirements for most workplaces.

 

I have a perfect rMBP, actually. It has a S-PLS Samusng display. Perfect white point (D65 K), no yellow oversaturation, no pink, no blue. And yes, the machine is otherwise awesome. I have the top tier model, the 2.7 GHz. The performance is amazing.

 

It better be amazing, it was more than 4K $ ;-)

2 of the 5 rMBPs I went through before I luckily ended up with a perfect Samsung display had this issue.  It bothered me quite a bit and would only continue to do so.  If it bothers you and you have IR, exchange it if you can within the 14 days.  You should be 100% satisfied with your purchase.

Just wanted to ask and share something as well.What I have noticed is that when I log on to the apple website and zoom the area where iPad mini is written I get to see a line of white pixels.It is noticeable even if u don't magnify it ,however that's not the case with anything that I magnify,be it the text in pages or any PDF document.I even tried to confirm if the screen had developed dead pixels by downloading pixel check but there I couldn't notice any specific colour dot when I changed my background to all four colours ie green blue red black and white.Is there an issue with the apple website with this respect??

Plus I have an lg display and as far as my experience goes the IR hasn't got worse since I have been using my rmbp for 4 months now.The screen's stupendous,no dead pixels,no yellow tint as well.Astounding contrast and brilliant colours

Lol, Apple should change the name of MacBook Pro with Retina Display to "MacBook Pro with RETENTION Display".

I got 2.7/16/768 with LG and I asked for a refund. I again ordered the same thing and again got an LG with problem and again asked for a refund!!! I'll just advice everyone not to buy any apple product with this "name" on it till they fix the problem!

oh, btw, when you search for "Macbook pro problem" in google, you won't find this problem at all, all you guys need to do is to spread this around so that everyone know about it. Just type down "problem- retina display" or "problem macbook pro" and such things so that the number of this two words next to each other increases. This way it will go on top pages of google search and finally apple will be forced to do something about it!!!

LOL, the only time I ever had a MacBook that closed like the photos above was when I ordered a used top panel assembly (the glass on the original one was in so many pieces I finally damaged the LCD trying to get it all out and I found a cheap top cover assembly on Ebay) and proceeded to install it myself. The replacement worked perfectly, but had obviously been tweaked somewhere in the hinge at some point and it looked just like the above photos. Definitely should not shut like that from the factory.

I got my replacement screen today. Display ID LSN154YL01001 - Samsung. There is DEFINITELY A YELLOW TINT on the bottom half of the screen. Annoying indeed especially when working with any applications that use a large white area ( = a vast majority of applications) I will see how it progresses. Perhaps in one of my trips to the U.S., I will get it swapped out and replaced again.

The IR is gone.

On one of the Shark Tank episodes one of the guys made mention of Apple, something like "I don't like when these things are made in China, we all saw what happened to Apple" "They all say they're great but when it comes time to actually building the product...." I'm curious as to what Apple products he was referring to as I'd doubt very much he was referring to the rmbp and I thought Apple just started recently in China, like with the Iphone 4. Although I'm sure the his concerns on products built outside of north america would apply to the rmbp for sure.

Being Chinese manufactured has little to do with it, and Apple has been outsourcing there long before the iPhone. Sony still does final manufacturing and QA of many of their high end laptop lines in Japan of all places. Yet they fall apart like anything else, especially the displays at the hinge on the Z series. And dealing with Apple is a walk in the park by comparison to Sony.

Probably the most comparable laptop line to MacBooks as far as professional grade laptops is Lenovo's ThinkPad line, and they've always been made in China.

The rMBP display issues sound like engineering problems to me, not manufacturing problems. These are the first full size laptops to use the optically bonded displays, and I think LG (a South Korean company no less) is just having trouble with the tightly engineered tolerances necessary for a display of this magnitude of pixels in such a compressed space. As noted above, the Samsung color shift isn't a whole lot better.
