Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

No problem mate! my pleasure! I think the 14 days return policy starts from the day you sign that you have received your laptop!

Does anyone have experience with Amazon returning a rMBP with an LG display?

I just got a 2.6ghz, 16gig RAM, 512, 15" rMPB with a week 45 build.  Strange thing is that 1 battery cycle on it when I first turned it on.  Is apple selling used laptops?

Ran the test for the screen and its an LG.  Going to send it back today, definitely do not want to deal with IR on a $3000 laptop.

I got mine (which was an Apple Care replacement) and checked it with coconut battery - it said 0 cycles. Do you check it some other way?

Tadziak, I checked it by going to "about my mac" and then going under preferences or something.  I don't have it with me as I am currently at work and I'm not 100% familiar with MAC but on my girlfriends 2008 mac it says something like 180 cycles which makes sense.  On mine it said 1.

Yes. My first rMBP I got 6 weeks ago which was a week 33 LG displayed minor IR and the main graphics card wasn't redrawing properly. I had no problem here in the UK with Amazon taking it back. They give you a 1 month guarantee that they will take their electrical goods back. Yodel is the company here in the UK that pick up on their behalf.

They replaced the machine with a week 41 LG, no problems thus far but I've only had it 12 days...

Almost two months with my RMBP no image retention, no problems at all, I still believe that this is by far the best laptop out there, mac os is rock solid with really cool stuff, and running windows is amazing too, if you have doubts about getting this laptop, don´t, you won´t regret it, it really worths the money, yes it is expensive, but you get the best.

I haven't been following the last 100 pages or so of this post, but are they still shipping a similiar percentage of Samsung panels as they were earlier on, or has the stock mostly/entirely turned to LG?

so if I get a replacement, does my 14 days restart once I get the new machine?

Seems like they've run out of Samsungs and are only sending LGs?  Anyone build week 45+ get a Samsung?

Yes, your exchange / return period resets each time you get a new machine. Your receipt indicates a return date which is the last day you can exchange / return.

Okay I'll do a couple of returns then until I get a Samsung, but I would hate to get stuck with an LG screen with IR that I paid $3000 for.

Here I go again, sounding like a parrot...

Just had mine replaced today. This is my 3rd one now.  In store the general staff even mentioned about using Ripley to check the details, but unfortunately the Ripley webpage didn't seem to be loading properly.

Just got home, switched it on, and the first thing I noticed was the contrasting yellow and pink tints on the screen.  Yellow at the bottom, and Pink at the top.

    Another LG

I'm not sure. But IR will come in a few weeks (probably just past the 14 day window).

My previous models had the yellow/pink hue, but nowhere near as bad as this one. It's the first thing you notice.

It's a pink vignette around the edge of the screen, and yellow at the bottom.

I'll calibrate my screen and see how it looks after.
