Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

I guess you mean that you bought it at the end of October and received it 2nd of November and not October no?

We have to keep getting informed. If alot of people start posting about their newly bought ones there might be a good sign. Ive noticed that theres fewer posts lately.

Does anyone who have purchased a late october with and LG seen IR on their screens??

Are you really sure bout this (by spec)? or is it just what you think by looking at it?

To add a very recent discovery - the Samsung panel seems to be 8-bit, and the LG 6-bit. If you look closely at the iTunes and App Store icons on the LG, it looks like you can see 'pixels' or horizontal scan lines vs. the Samsung where it's a very smooth gradient.

    Interesting.....

There are no specs I can find, but by looking closely on these two screens in specific there is a very clear difference between the Samsung and LG. Whereas the LG appears to have horizontal scan lines that are most noticeable on the iTunes and App Store icons. Almost like you can see pixelation. The Samsung is perfectly smooth.

I'm wondering if anyone else can check this. I'm going to head into the store again and look closely at another screen again for comparison myself to see if something is up with this one in particular.

Mine is perfectly smooth both icons App store as well as the itunes one,it's an LG Week 25.I took a look at both the icons and they are insanely beautiful, plus like i have always preached, the only issue is IR and yesterday while using mission control i made a discovery as well.IR takes place due to presence of static image on the screen for long and since Mission Controls sports a gray background i could clearly visualise the safari toolbar and after like 10 minutes i came back to my room and i could see the display switched off.Prior to that when i activated Mission Control i could still see the retained image and this shouldn't have happened cause the display goes to sleep after 5 minutes of it being inactive.I gave it a try once again and could generate the same result but then i did shut my Mac and gave it a try, what i saw was that pixels had returned into their normal state like they normally do after the display goes of to sleep.

MORAL OF THE STORY-This is an issue with the LCD'S refresh rate with respect to gradients that require high contrast for eg Gray Background and I still feel that an EFI or SMC update can fix this.

Quite possibly I have an issue with this specific screen then if you're telling me your gradient is perfectly smooth. I'll go look at another LG, and if I find the icons to be perfectly smooth I'll ask for a screen swap and point it out.

I bought my 13inch MBPr on the first week of October... I use it almost 18 hours a day and it works properly with no signs of IR..

Early October, Week 40/41 purchase here.  LG panel.

Have been following this thread and doing the checkerboard test every so often, no IR noticed so far.

Today did the test again and, for the first time, noticed slight IR on a dark grey background after 10 minutes of the checkerboard display, it cleared up in about 30 seconds though.

Will keep an eye on things and take it in for repair if it gets so bad that it disturbs my work.

I share your thoughts. I also thought that Icons and fonts are sharper on the Samsung. I noticed it too first on the dock icones.

Found it. Copy and paste into terminal. If it starts with LSN, it is a Samsung.

    ioreg -lw0 | grep \"EDID\" | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6

Mine is a week 41 build with a Samsung, no problems.

now we can safely claim that IR has not been fixed on week 44 either.

    IR is still there.

Can someone out there please tell me if anyone has come up with a way to check the 13rMBP display manufacturer since Apple removed the Terminal option? It seems the problem exisits in the 13 as well but it would be nice to know if there is a way to check if it has a LG or Samsung. Thanks!!!

Can you tell me how you were able to find out you had a LG display on your 13 rMBP? They took out the ability to find out through the Terminal Command. Thanks!
