    They didn't take out the ability, just we would need to tweak the terminal command for it.

    Have LG screen - third replacement -  (Wk44 Chipmunk - Wk 45 Macserialnumber).


    Been using for over a week, not continuously I admit - about 3 -10 hrs a day for 8 days - no hint of IR at all as yet. I will monitor over next week.


    If this issue isn't resolved soon I am seriously considering the classic MBP - my hands are tied as far as using Mac s/w for work so I really don't have a choice - the other laptops just don't cut it any more since they (Apple) seem to be obsessed with thinness and weight and eschewed dedicated GPUs from some models, that was a big let-down for me - a case of 'form over function'.


    The 'Classic' as it seems to be called now, with the higher res screen, is, when you add in 16GB RAM and a decent SSD a better slightly performer than the MBPr from all the benchmarks I've seen - as it's not coping with as many pixels.


    This issue has rather spoilt my 'delight' somewhat.

    I hope so. Thanks for the reply. I'll hope for someone smart to figure this out as I have tried everything. Someone had come out with a App to see who the display manufacturer was some time ago. Do you have any idea if that would work as I cannot find the App anymore. Thanks again!

    Apple knows that all retina displays have problem, but they want to sell it as much as they can. SO... They have reduced the price of rMBP in comparison to the classic model and made it cheaper. The classic model with 512 GB SSD and 2.6GHz CPU is £2,599.01 and the RAM is only 8GB. On the other hand "the best laptop they have ever made" which is rMBP with 512 GB memory, 2.6GHz CPU and 16GB RAM and the super faulty retins display is £2,458.99 don't you see it's a bit funny that the newer higher spec laptop is cheaper than the previous one!! anyway, probably they have reduced some size and material but it doesn't compensate £110 extra for the 16GB RAM and the expensive flash technology oh and don't forget about the new retina display which should cost them more to manufacture it. just to let you know!!

    Thanks merchantman. I ran it but I keep getting a message saying the action "speak test" encountered an error. Thanks though for your help. I did change my security preferences that allow for anyone. Weird!

    Hey lel62 and merchantcman, that app was designed for the 15" MacBook Pro with Retina display. If I read correctly, you have the 13". So far, no one has discovered a way to determine the screen manufacturer of a 13" rMBP. That is why the app encounters an error because it cannot retrieve a result from the code.

    Thanks! That's what I was afraid of but had to at least give it a go. Someone just a few pages back mentions that he has a 13 with a LG panel so I am trying to figure out how he knows this. Any other ideas? Thanks in advance!

    I had talked about the retail store's ability to use their Ripley system a few months ago on this thread but from what I hear they have reduced the number of retail staff that has access to this system down to just a few on management staff so unless a Store Manager is willing to check in advance I know of no other way to find out  whether its LG or Samsung. I used to have someone that would check for me but their ability to access the system has been removed.

    Custom build, LG panel with heavy IR and 2 pixel faults here, bought in April, right after the new rMBP appeared. I went to an apple reseller store on friday (they are listed on the support page), and got the answer that they must keep my macbook in for 2-3 days to examine and replace the faulty display. W T F? no way to wait until the new panel arrives, and then bring it in for 2-3hrs of work until it gets replaced? ridiculous.


    actually there's nothing to examine, the IR is clearly visible, the pixel faults too.


    also, what they told me that they couldn't influence what type of panel they order. i'm not impressed with the service, this is a high price notebook, and i'm using it for everyday work.


    i'll definitely look for another service point.

    So I just got back in and checked 2 locations screens on display. A bestBuy and Apple store. 6 systems, all with Samsung panels. They seem to know of the LG issue clearly.

    I got my rMBP back from Rheincenter Apple Store (Cologne, Germany) and it has a Samsung panel now. The order number was #661-7171. Good luck, guys (and ladies)!
