Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

That's what I noticed too. It didn't specifiy panels for MBPs/Retina displays. So...speculation will continue:)

I haven't been following this thread for a few weeks now ,but it looks much like it did weeks ago.  People still haveing IR problems and hoping for Samsungs.  Before there were some complaints on Samsung having yellowish screens, is that still happening?

So I've had my LG since September, wk 35 or 36 depending on which place you run the serial number at.  I developed a slight IR about the 2nd week after, and you can see IR on a dark screen, but it hasn't gotten any worse, and the thing is on pretty much all day and evening.  I set background at a middle gray and you can't see it at all.  It has not bled through my photographs in any of my editing programs.  So the screen is great.  If it gets worse, it will go for a fix.  But I'm hoping it doesnt or at least hangs in there until they actually get these issues handled.  But so far, its the best computer I've had and is really pretty great for photo editing.

Why would you expect them to replace a screen that doesn't display a problem?  If you don't like the fact that you may get an LG screen, then you are free not to purchase the product like you say.  Does a premptive screen replacement sound logical?  If you are really not wanting a LG, or want to make sure the problem is solved, you should indeed wait to revision 2.  I did that when one of the iMacs I was interested in was having lots of reported monitor problems so I waited until the revision came out and it was a good move.  Wait and then see what gets reported on the forums if you don't need the thing right now, it could save you a lot of grief.

There is an other thing: I bought rMBP without know this issue... That has worked since buying but two weeks ago IR appeared. What can I do?

I am not sure about the replacing due to lot of discussions (LG is the same, Samsung can be yellowed). Apple called me the new display arrived. Otherwise my screen is beautiful, homogenous, the problem only is IR. I will try make an agreement with genius if the newst one is worse than current, I don't want the change.

Gotta say, I'm one of the people that has been following the applecare forum since the start, had two faulty retina displays, and I voted with my wallet yesterday. I'm building a much more powerful windows machine for a fraction of the cost, and am putting my Apple loyalty on the shelf until they fix themselves. I simply couldn't wait anymore.  Logically, a company that won't recognize its customers' complaints after this many months doesn't deserve our business.  I'm outta here, and I'm not looking back.

Good luck to everyone that sticks with this, but really ask yourselves, how long does it make sense to wait and fight with this?  I'm a long-time apple user, and enough is enough.

Not sure if it helps anyone.

Myself and my business partner both ordered CTO (15", 2.6, 16gb, 256gb) and we both got Samsung screens, we're in the UK.

Overall screen looks good to me.

I'm always amazed that any "long-time Apple user" could even consider using Windows.

William, it's easy to switch when the company you have supported for so long betrays you and is silent on the details.  I would have thought they would fix this issue by now, but that obviously doesn't seem to be the case.  Mountain Goat has also reduced my iMac to a 50lb paperweight due to audio stuttering which Apple is aware of but has done nothing for 6 months in.  The fix?  Windows 7.

The point is stock prices are dropping, confidence is being eroded, and cost benefit analysis by customers wronged in these processes is leading to a higher rate of defection back to Windows.  The lure of controlling the hardware and software side of things is taking its toll on Apple and a whip needs to be cracked again.  Truly a shame this still hasn't been remedied yet.  And since Samsung is likely to be completely phased out next year on panels, I wonder who will fill the void and if all new laptops will have this issue?

^^^ Yes indeed. I contributed my thoughts quite heavily to this thread several weeks ago and after all the frustration I decided that enough is enough. I have a business to run and Apple's shenanegins were affecting my bottom line. I now have a Dell desktop and an Asus notebook running Windows 8. My applications are stable and the units play quite nicely together. The price? OVER 1000$ LESS THAN MY RETURNED rMBP!!! I actually regret upgrading to iPhone 5 before seriously considering a Windows phone. I supported Apple for many years and by making my corporate presentations on Apple products in a Microsoft environment I swayed many over to Apple's side during that time. No more. I'm actively promoting Windows 8 for home and entertainment use. Ignore us to appease shareholders, Apple? You are going to pay the price for your short-term thinking.

Ordered a rMBP on the Black Friday sales event and then found this site explaining all the issues with burn-in and ghosting, etc. My new Apple computer arrived and I nervously checked to see which screen was installed. It is a Samsung. I had decided to return it if it was LG.

Had I known about these screen faults and Apple's handling of the situation prior to ordering, I would have gone with a *ugh* PC instead. It's mostly for my kids who need a laptop for school (they will be sharing).

Perhaps future rMBP's will be better quality.

Alright guys, good news. I got my screen replaced and it is a Samsung, yay!... It is the first replacement I get so I guess I was just lucky.

FWIW, I didn't take it to an Apple Store but to a "Certified Apple Center" since there is no Apple Store in my country.

From the short time that I've used this new one, it looks perfect. No IR, no dead/stuck pixels and it doesn't seem yellow'ish at all. Perhaps because I'm already used to the yellow'ish tone from my BenQ monitors I use on another PC. If I put side by side my rBMP and a BenQ (G2420HD) the BenQ looks ridiculously yellow.

Anyway -as I said before- I wish there was an official response from Apple on the issue.

I think the message they are sending is loud and clear.
