Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I have an LG and I haven't seen anything yet. My serial number doesn't even indicate a build type... I got my laptop a week ago.

What hard evidence is there that Samsung aren't making panels?  According to Cook they are and will continue to use Samsung products in Apple products so I'd like to know where people are getting the evidence from that Samsung panels are no longer being produced for rMBP.

That's news to me also.  I just ordered a 2.7, 16, 512 Friday and Apple tech told me both LG and Samsung are still current vendors and its been approx a 50/50 mix on recent (last few weeks) deliveries from china.

Just an update.  Had mine since early October, LG.   2.66, 16gb, 768 SSD.  No IR.  Display is simply beautiful.

I must qualify that I do not run the standard IR test.  I'm not looking to find the problem.  I'm looking in my normal work to see if it shows up.  It doesn.  I can have web browsers, mail, whatever open and if I slide the window off and look at the window below.  Nothing.

My only complaint might be that it doesn't seem to get as bright as some prior displays even at full brightness but it is still very usuable even in sunlight. 

Even with that minor complain about brightness I actually hate going back to work on my older 2010 MBP which I gave to my wife.  She is not real computer savvy so I have to keep going back and showing her how to do things and I look at the screen I used to love and think... wow... mine is so much nicer!

CAN ANYONE PLEASE POINT ME TO ANY RECOMMENDED SETUP GUIDES FOR A NEW rMBP 15 ?

I'm looking for general tips and tweaks to get maximum performance from my new rMBP and 10.8

Like how to properly (completely) remove unwanted Apple software, best way to install adobe CS6 extended, any tweaks to maximize SSD usable space (limit hidden backups etc.) and general ways to improve overall performance.

I had no idea about this issue untill i got bored today and started googling macbook retina 15in since i recently purchaced one ...

I feel everyones pain having issues with the expensive new macbooks..... Back in 2009 i purchaced one of the first 27inch imacs when they came out and had all sorts of screen issues ... yellowing uneven backlighting , noisy screen noisy hdd and 3 imacs later i gave up completly on apple untill now .

To say the least i was worried untill i checked mine but Im pleased to say ...

Congrats. I still can't figure out what my build week is... but I do have an LG screen and no problems with it thus far.

I have pretty bad ghosting on my LG display.  When I took it into the apple store in SOHO they were quite dismissive about the whole thing, running their little in-store test (with a checkerboard image they googled) and blithely informing me that they did not see a problem...

When did you get your macbook? what build is your laptop? and when did you start see ghosting? And what is your daily usage on your laptop (ie: brightness all the way up all the time?)

Stories like this scare me.  When Apple starts acting like this, they are losing their reputation of being a company that stands by their products and has excellent customer service.  It is purely because of that trust I have in Apple that I will often go in and blindly buy their products.  I know that if there is an issue, they will stand behind it and make things right.  Seems to not be the case so much anymore.  And on a computer where the screen is the whole purpose you are buying it...it's inexcuseable.  Not sure what is happening at Apple but I don't like it.  This whole rMBP quality control issue and their response to it has me unnerved.

It's not just a few people.. more than 90% of the poeple with LG screens have got the problem according to this forum which is quite more than "just a few" including me!! I have returned mine and saved myself all the hassels that apple is putting these decent costumers through!!

This is, as has been mentioned before all over the place, a "support forum".   What you will see posted here are people with problems.  Very very rarely will you see posts here from people without problems just writing in to say, "Hey... everything is great!".

So your notion that 90% of the people with LG screen have a problem is simply wrong.  Perhaps 90% in THIS THREAD have the problem.  But I'm sure there have been quite a few retina MBPs sold.   This thread is now roughly 400 pages long.  If we were to assume just for the sake of trying to come up with an estimate that there were 10 posts per page that would be 4000 posts.  If we also assumed each of these was from a unique owner of a LG equipped retina MBP then we are talking about 4000 people with LG screens that are complaining.

I think it is safe to say that in the 6-7 months (I think) that the rMBP has been out that Apple has sold WAY more than 4000 of them.   I mean there was a report back in July that said something about 4 million Mac's sold.  Even if we decided that just 1/10 of that number was retina MBPS we are still looking at 400,000 retina Macs and that is back in July!

I happen to be one of the LG screens and so far I don't see or have ghosting, IR, etc.  My MBP is approaching 3 months old.  It's on all day long and it works just fine.  In my normal usage pattern I do not see IR.  I don't go looking for it by running the tests from this forum.  Perhaps if I did I'd see some IR. 

My point is simply that in my case I have yet to see it and in normal daily operations I don't see.  I'd bet there are a BUNCH of LG screen owners just like me out that that either don't see it, don't have it, haven't looked for it or don't even know the problem exists.

Amen! You've said everything that I was thinking of! I haven't had any problems yet either and was considering if I should return it or what not, but your post just made me decide that I should just keep mine. Thanks!

And I looked on the web for build week and they were saying that the 4th and 5th characters of the serial number tells you the build week, however, those characters in my serial number are letters o.O, maybe mine is special case and won't have IR who knows
