Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

I'm about a week into ownership of my rMBP with LG panel.  I've run the IR checkerboard test a few times now (out of apprehension and curiosity), and have still have no trace of IR at all yet.

At first I was a bit put off by the "warm" colors of the display - but now when I go back to my 17" hi-res anti-glare MBP (which is much cooler on the color spectrum) the colors seem washed out and black detail seems blown out.

Unless I start getting crazy IR in the next couple of weeks, I'm feeling like this rMBP is a keeper even with the LG screen.

Two months and that will be appear. Unfortunately my story is the same. First I didn't see any IR on the screen. After two months I did.

God **** you serious ? I still have 3 week to return the product...

Does really ALL LG do this or again it is random ?

Sincerely, if you guys had the chance to return the product for a full refund would you do it since you are used to that nice retina computer ?

I had the same question... I have about the same time to return it too. However, I feel like this is random and you haven't seen it then you shouldn't worry about it. First check what build week your model is on. Mine's on week 48 and I haven't had any problems. Although, I have only used it for a week...

I've read that some people who has the problem had the problem from the beginning. I've tested my screen with the checkboard and nothing, and I'm connected with an external monitor and have left applications on the retina for a long time and still nothing....

For now, with my normal usage, I'm not complaining. Its a great laptop.

When I bought mine in early October and it had the problem, I returned it. I noticed it after about 4-5 days. At the Apple Store, I tested some Retina MacBook Pros which were on display and most of them had LG screens. However, I couldn't reproduce the issue on any of them. 2 months later, I went back to the same store and tested two of the screens again (using just a Safari window) and the IR issue was there...

Allright will take attention to it until near return date for me.

Is there any way to accelerate the first sigh of the problem if my LG panel is weak ? Like full brightness all the time or do the test the more often as I can or any other hint ?

On the other side, does Apple handle IR problem up to three year with Apple Care ?

This laptop is so well build, too bad they let that pass out production and they are not doing that much.

Your best bet for stress testing it for IR is probably:

    - use full brightness

    - do highly performance intensive tasks like video editing, games, etc.

    - do the checkerboard test every once in a while

If the issue still hasn't shown up by the time your return period runs out, I'd (personally) keep it and make sure to get Apple Care. If the problem shows up in the future, I'd then give Apple **** about it...

I believe you have one year from date of purchase to get Apple Care, it'll basically be like an +2 year extension of your 1 year warranty.

No relevant connection between IR and full brightness. Try it without any brightness and that will be appear...

Maybe, but heat did seem to affect it, so high brightness probably does to some degree as well.
