Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I test by using my eyes. If I see a bad pixel, there's a bad pixel.

what will a bad pixel look like? white dot?

More of a spec than a dot. But yes, or black. I guess red, green, or blue are possibilities, too.

Depending if it is stuck "on" or "off", it could show up as a dark or a white dot.

So, I went in today to get my screen replaced before my holiday return period was up.  I use this machine mostly for .Net development so I constantly have Visual Studio open.  I could consistently get image retention when switching from my windows vm to either www.trello.com or another text editor with a dark grey background.

This wasn't really having an effect on my daily work, but it was very annoying to see stuff "burned" into the screen after a short period of time.  So I took it in.

The guy was very nice, but told me that this was just a problem for this type of display, and that I'd never experienced this kind of display.  It happens to all of them, he told me.  He decided that he would do the diagnostic test that they do to test for image retention.  What a ******** test that was...  4 min of checkerboard, and 1 min of a bascially black screen.  Of course you wouldn't see it...  the screen is black.  So after I reiterated that I didn't think it was acceptable.  He agreed to replace it.  So they have my laptop now and are replacing it with the display (part number 661-7171) that has been talked about on here.  I hope it is a Samsung.  I love this machine so I want to keep it.

They get one shot.

Has anyone recently gotten an LG with the part number above?

I am thinking about getting a 15 inch MacBook Pro with Retina display but based on seeing all of these posts, should I still get it?

I have a week 48 2.7/16/512 rmbp with a Samsung screen and SSD.  No IR, no dead pixels, no backlight bleed (from what I can tell), but I do appear to have the yellow tint on the bottom-left part of the screen.  I am primarily a software engineer (iOS, Java/JEE, etc., coding 40-60 hrs a week), but I do dabble in Photoshop/iPhoto.

My question is, would you keep this screen, or should I try to get it replaced, or should I just return it?  Am I being too OCD about it?  My 2010 MBP Aside from this issue, it appears to be flawless.

In my opinion just wait till the next gen comes out.. we are already half way through it!!! just 5-6 months is left

What would the next generation have?

Probably it will have Haswell CPU architecture which has better graphics performance and also it will make less heat and also will be faster. Moreover, we all hope they fix the screen issues!! some say that they might use better graphic cards than 650M.

Also, they'll probably add in the upgrade wifi that they're planning to do on the new macs.

I would say no. I returned mine 1 months ago before 14 days and im glad i did. IPS display should not produce that much burnin in such a small amount of time. I never took any special care for screen with my ipad 4 (IPS display) and my Dell IPS 27" and never had burnin or read about peole complaining about that. Unless you really need it, live near an Apple Store and like to fight for warranty, look for other well build product.

Since i needed a laptop, i decided to get my hand on Macbook Air 13 with 8 gig of ram. Surprisingly, after a couple of days im really satisfied with the screen and find it sharp enough. Powerfull enough, 8 ram is a must and form factor is perfect. Was looking to keep that one until Apple fix their IPS panel on retina.... Until today.....

I purchased a MBA late 2012 model and sadly had a error on SSD after 3 weeks. Computer was running well but diagnostic system pulled an error. I got to Apple Store today and Genius kept the laptop for repair. At the same time I asked for some price if warranty was out, i didn't beleive it:

408$ for logic board

460$ for lcd screen (basic, common 13 TN lcd panel)

808$ for 128 gig SSD

This is hard to understand how Apple can ask that much money to repair their own faulty made product that didn't last... For me that make me decide not to purchase the rMBP even if they fix their screen. Will keep using iphone and ipad and that MBA unless i decide to sell it.

I see where they make soo much money now... Before sale upgrade, after sales repair and closed hardware. Too bad they produce so much attractive products...

My problem is the same. I have yellow tint on bottom left corner... It is Samsung display which made in September. It is terrible...

I am looking forward my third (!!!!) screen replacing due to yellow tint somewhere on the screen (the previous was yellow tinted on right side).
