Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

Ok. As I mentioned before I ordered a 2.3/16/256 that came with an LG screen.  I've had absolutely no issues with this LG screen - it looks great.  Right after I ordered this computer they changed the configuration options for the low end version - I opted to get one with a faster processor 2.6.  I submitted a return request and have until the 18th to send the original back.  I recieved the 2.6 rMBP today and it came with a Samsung screen.  So I have a perfectly fine rMBP with an LG screen and one with a perfectly fine Samsung screen.

I just booted it up for the first time 5min ago. Once I get it setup I'll post some pics comparing a good LG screen with no IR issues with the Samsung screen - I'll also compare to the iPhone 4s.

    Stay tuned....

The LG is a week 30 and the Samsung is a week 32.  The 30 week came with Lion, 32 came with Mountain Lion.

I asked for a few times and they even forwarded me to a senior advisor but to no avail. Now it's too late, my 14 days just ended (today 15th). Guess i'll just live with it, since the IR is subtle and minimal at best.

Seriously! She laughed when she asked why would I want to do return and I told her because the new ones are better and somehow cheaper. She forced me to order the one I want first before return. I told her that I don't have that kind of money in my credit cards to put another order. She talked to her supervisor and she said it's OK DHL will call you to set up an appointment.

So you are going to accept a faulty product that you tried to return within the Apple policy time frame and it was refused for no good reason. Which I would of never stood for.

All I can say it No Wonder Apple has all that money in the bank.

Thanks for doing this - I think that will help a lot of folks.  I too am experiencing no ghosting whatsoever on my LG panel and I have been trying really really hard.  It will be interesting for you to comment on if the Samsung display has any kind of advtnage over the LG display tho.

I thought you don't have a H/W issue! So if you have a problem you should have at least set up a meeting with G bar and let them deal with a replacement.

You're still in one-year warranty and you can go to the Genius bar to repair it. (relace it or I don't know what they really do to the LCD panel).

It's alright, i'll use it until a major problem arises, then i'll bring it in to apple for repairs. I bought applecare along with my rMBP so nothing much to worry, at least i'll be in a peaceful state of mind for 3 years.

Is this issue big enough to make the news?  This thread had become ginormous.  I think there is a big % of users who are blissfully unaware of this issue.

I just noticed the problem last night.  I'm pretty senstive and picky about screens, so I'm really thinking that it didn't show up until a couple of weeks after purchase.  Luckily I think today is my last day to return, and I did go ahead and get the 3 years of Apple Care.  I really don't want to have to play the swap-laptops-until-you-get-one-that-works game, but we'll see.

I'm currently outside waiting for my appointment at 11:30.  We'll see what happens.

I've been on the phone with Apple support for two hours now. They claim they can't do an advance replacement for a DOA (read: has image retention problems) rMBP. That's completely false, because that's exactly what Apple did the first time I had this issue (this is my second rMBP with IR issues). Frustrating.

I've received my rMBP on July 8th and have a LG screen week 32.  Mines 2.6/16/768 BTO,  and I've done the IR test and no problems.  Will still keep a close eye.
