    Not possible. "LTN154BT08" is a Samsung-made 15.4" 1440 x 900 panel used in the old A1286 unibody MacBook Pro.

From my understanding there haven't been any refurbished rMBP for sale through Apple.

There was like a week ago or so.

Refurbished rMBP went on sale last week (at least that what shows up when I navigate to the Apple website in Canada).  There have been forum chatter and anecdotes that the refurbished models have a high likelihood of shipping with a Samsung screen.  I ordered one last night and the sales guy seemed aware of the LG screen isues and assured me that all refurbished rMBP will come with a screen that does not have image retention (although he couldn't "guarantee" that it will be a Samsunf screen).  I will post my outcome here when I receive the refurbished rMBP in the mail in a few days.

If anyone is still debating and can wait... Analysts decent roadmap. Don't take this as a sure thing, but this seems like a pretty good estimate.

It seems to me that this thread is slowly dying, can it be a sign of people not getting those bad lg panels?

Yes, me at the moment :-)

After four display changes (all were Samsung, with yellowish parts on differrent places on the screens) I have a new rMBP (shipped yesterday). What a suprise... Unfortunately it is made on week 44, and it is LG. I don't want start again the process after two months, so I will send back that and ask rMBP with Samsung display.

But the Apple is OK in my case! Everybody is very patientand empathy. Everybody wants help me, but... the hardwer (display) doesn't seems to qualitative product.

I hope the next one will be the best.

Ps: this matter causes funny moments to my family... :-)))))) But I have lots of task not only to go to service :-)))))

If Apple replaced the entire laptop, wouldn't it be a refurb?  Even the screen...?  I doubt it would be brand new.

Not going to read 430 pages but i thought I would chime is.

Purchased MBr when first released.  Had a test done and passed in Apple store but this is bulls..t.

I am running Windows 8.  For those that dont know Windows 8, the opening screen is a colorful picture of what looks to be like Seattle, when pressing enter it slides up to reveal the logon screen.  I have Maroon color as my logon screen.

Right away I can see a very clear image of the Seattle picture on the Maroon logon screen.

When working away and say going off for a cuppa and been working a while on normal desktop, I hit command+L to lock screen  which takes me to the Seattle pic. Coming back after 5 mins and hit enter to get logon and I have IR within IR I can see the Seattle screen and also the original Windows desktop.

Goes away after a while but then when I logon and go to my normal desktop, whatever IR is there it gets blended in so not noticeable.

So, not sure what to do as their response was, don't use Windows, Say what!

We have three Macbook Pros and three iPhones in the houshold.  Two Macbooks due to be replaced in June so I think I will vote with my feet and move away from Apple.  Sad but don't like the politics now.

I am proably going to be buying one of these machines but should I buy a refurbished one or a brand new one?

  • jarrodbooth Level 1 (0 points)

I only just noticed this today. I got it when it first came out, so had it about 6 months now.

First I noticed a faint line over my desktop image, then I noticed the Safari search bar quite clear on a coloured image.

I made my background a dark grey, set the dock to hiding on, and the burn in was stark.

I'm glad to hear that it's just image retention, not permanent burn in, but it's still terrible. This computer is supposed to be Apple's best machine, I spent a lot of money on it and it's supposed to have the best display on the market.

I've booked in a genius bar appointment. It's a base model so hopefully they can swap it right away. Sounds like that doesn't really help, unless you get a ****** Samsung display with other issues.

Honestly, if you're in the market, don't buy one. Wait for the next generation, when hopefully you don't get randomly assigned one of two ****** Korean display manufacturers.

How often are samsung displays failing? It would seem no more than any other display, retina or not. Anyone want to chime in?
