Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

Should I keep my refurbished on order? Or should I cancel the order and buy a brand new one? And do the refurbished 15 inch retina MacBook Pro's come with Lion or Mountain Lion? It says it has older apps like iChat. And will the refurbished have any of these issues?

I actually have it on 50-60% brightness several hours a day when I am editing photos, that is about 120cd brightness after calibration.  Still no signs of any IR at all....

Does anyone know the true color gamut/accuracy of the Retina display?

I wanted to chime in on this. I purchased a 15" rmbp on 12/26/2012. I found this thread and started paying attention to the IR. It started this past week and got very noticable very quickly - itunes on a gray backound, IR visible in 5 min. I took it back to the store I puchased it at and used that chipmunk website to look up the serial numbers they had in stock. The first one had a week 51 build date and the second didn't even have 1/2 the normal specs listed so I figured it was too new to be listed. Needless to say, I puchased that one and I have a Samsung screen now. I am noticing that this screen isn't quite as sharp as the LG but I will take this over the IR, specially after it getting worse quickly.

Here's a screen shot of my screen calibration results with xrite i1PRO Display profiler.  For some reason the sRGB 'target' and 'measured' lines don't show when copied in the image below, it works out to approx 98% of sRGB Gamut, perfect blue and red match and just off a hair to the left at the green point.

Jajaba, do you have the LG or Samsung display?

LG, week 48, no IR.  My friend just returned his Samsung rMBP due to the inability to calibrate an accurate 65K white point (+/- 500+K) as well as significant screen brightness uniformity issues, +/- 12%, my LG is +/- 5.5% @ 120cd. He's actually hoping for an LG on his replacement....

Yes. Me ... Yellow Band in middle of the Screen and after 2 days Display Never worked.

Comparing the Samsung and LG, I personally liked the LG's colors more!

On my third screen now for a 15" MBPr - first was replaced because of dead pixels, second because of IR from where I found this thread, second screen was an LG.

Unisys house-call tech just fixed replaced my screen - he's in the kitchen putting away his tools after 3hrs of work (also replaced the bottom case for the second time because of trackpad issues!) - terminal trick shows I now have a third screen which is Samsung even though apple said I'd be getting a 'newer LG, without the IR issue'.

Seems brighter - but I can only go from impressions/memory and not a true A/B comparison.

Apple customer relations mentioned a $150 iTunes store credit. No harm asking them why you ALL shouldn't get one as well ?

I'm on my fourth retina. This one's got an LG display (3 of the 4 have been LG). No IR. My problem with all of them has been the yellowish color temperature. Calibration doesn't really overcome it. What's up with these yellowish displays? A few on the floor at the stores are yellowish and those that have neutral whites haven't been calibrated. I'm ready to give up all together on Apple. I'm feeling really compelled to write Tim Cook and get executive customer relations involved.

As you can see in my calibration results above my LG calibrates to a near perfect 65K white point.  I also have a 50K white point (for pre press) calibration which measured out to 5002K, can't get much more accurate than that.  I'm currently using the Xrite i1ProDisplay profiler but my Datacolor Spyder3 system also worked well on the LG retina display.  I also know 5 other local rMBP LG owners who all have accurate calibration results (they are all photographers or graphic designers).  How are you calibrating your displays?  All of the above mentioned machines have been calibrated using an external colorimeter type calibration system that creates actual ICC profiles.  No one who works in a color critical industry uses the built in Apple Colorsync 'on screen' calibration option, it's just not an accurate enough process for professional color output.

It looks like you have been very unlucky. I am on my first rMPB which has a LG screen. No IR, no yellow tint, and no backlight bleeding. I would keep trying until you get a good display because they are out there.

I've been a Mac user for almost 20 years and I've never had to go out of my way to calibrate an Apple display.  I mean literally when you power it on and see the gray screen with the Apple logo you can tell it's warmer/yellower. Now I'm not going to spend a couple of hundred bucks for a tool to calibrate it.  What is up with Apple's quality control?  Warmer than usual displays, image retention.  Thankfully I haven't experienced image retention but this whole experience is frustrating and disappointing!
