Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

ok. I think my school is part of the "Apple on Campus" program, but it doesn't appear in the list of schools.

So can people stop doing such long tests and just do short ones with a colorful background and then tell me if they get IR. and if you want to do a long one can you vary it up and do a long one and then switch to another program via expose and show me IR then. I don't care about IR on a grey background after a stupidly long time on one image as my iMac will even do that so its nothing new to me. I have never noticed it in any normal production use so as long as the retina is like that why do people care?

Why do people care? Because this laptop is designed for people that edit photos/videos for long hours. not just for five minutes. If you don't care then accept your first laptop and not do any test at all. Why are you so worried if you don't care?

Well, I didn't do any kind of test. Just surfed the web a couple of minutes and there it was (the IR, that is) and since I'm a graphic designer, I need my display to work properly. No, let me rephrase this: since I paid 2.499€ it MUST work properly, even if I was an average Joe (no offence) and not a professional. Sorry if this is of any annoyance to you . . .

This is exactly my point. I paid $3,500 for a laptop that I expected to have no problems and then IR shows up after 5 minutes of testing. That's ridiculous. If you are annoyed that we strive for perfection then you can stick with your rMBP and go have your own fun with your computer. @Cricker

I'm an editor/animator full time and even though I'll spend long times in a program I'll also usually be flicking between programs heaps.

Scripts, emails, google searches etc etc pretty rare I'd be in fcp, AE or C4d for a complete hr without ever flicking once. That's why I want some more reasonable tests done. Like working in normal programs with normal colorful desktop graphics. Then id be concerned if I had a massive IR issue. If its just obvious on a grey background from long tests then meh.

My first rMBP, IR happened after 30 minutes. My second one IR happened 5 minutes right out of the box.

I have 2 more incoming. Hopefully one of them Samsung.

Have you got a picture of IR occurring over the top of another program?

No, but I'd imagine with my second laptop after extensive use ~3hrs of C4d or any editing program and then you go on to edit something else with another program that's lighter in color you would be able to see it.

Oh please, just let me know if I'll have to cut back working on a grey web design after spending so much money . . . What am I going to tell my client? "Sorry, my display doesn't allow your color choice"?
