Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

    I'm sorry but that command does not work.  I copied exactly into the terminal and it returns nothing.  I'm not sure what MacBook you guys are having success with but it does not work on mine

    From reading this discussion the command to check video manufacture has never worked on 13" model.

    thanks, it would have been helpful if more people posted the type of MacBook they own at the bottom of their posts when posting.

    Good point since the 13" appears to be having similar IR issues.  But keep in mind this thread began for the original retina 15" shortly after it was released, there was no 13" retina.  I know there was a 13" rMBP IR thread that didn't have many posts.  Maybe it makes sense to either use that one or start a new thread just for the 13" retina....

    This thread has gotten a bit out of hand. I'm not sure anything new can be said, unless a 13" Terminal command is discovered, or the IR issue is solved with a hardware update. (Haswell, anyone?)

    Can anyone tell me if there is a real difference between the 2.6 ghz and the 2.7 ghz?

    I have purchased before 2-3 weeks a 15" 2.6ghz and now the apple "upgrade", put me in thoughts. Why apple stop 2.6?

    Hehehe, ok CT, thats for sure!!...

    But does anyone know what that 0.1 means to the system and why apple stopped the 2.6ghz?

    There is no significat performance improvement with the 'new' 2.7Ghz option over the original 2.6Ghz.  It was changed because intel upgraded the speeds due to yeild improvements in manufacturing.  Note that the current 2.7Ghz option is not the same one as the older 2.7Ghz option which had 8MB L3 Cache, the 'new' 2.7 only has 6MB Cache just like the 2.6Ghz you ordered so you would only see a minor ~2-3% performance increase.  Unless you do a lot of major CPU based number crunching you will not notice the difference at all.

    I would  suggest that you should determine if the 2.6 has a good screen with no IR and if so keep it.  If you have IR then you could return it for the upgraded 2.7 and hopefully get a better screen.

    Ok, I see. I am in graphic design field and music compose. I dont know if that counts.

    I was wondering if the 2.7 was better of mine 2.6, but as you wrote, there is no big deal.

    And on the other hand there is a lsn screen here.

    @CT

    It's not linear based on CPU speed.  Also no need to fill up the thread with useless one liners....

    @vmac83

    Unless your doing huge 3D graphics rendering then it wont make a difference, the 2.8Ghz option with 8MB Cache would be the way to go.  For 2D graphics the 2.6 will be more than enough.  Plus you have a Samsung so I would keep it.

    Discussing CPU speed is off topic. This thread is about image retention issues on the retina display.

    Let's try to keep this discussion useful for the community

    @muriss

    Yeah muriss and sorry guys for my off topic question, but i thought that this cpu speed subject maybe was about the ir problem too.

    @Jajaba

    Thank you for your information and help :)

    I'd like to know for mere curiosity what percentage of those who bought a retina macbook with image retention actual notice it and don't think there is a problem or don't notice it but have it. Also it would be nice to know how that relates to those who bought iMacs back when there was the yellow tint problem and don't realize they have an issue.
