Oh and for those of you saying your Samsung panel is a little on the warm side (color temperature), mine was too, but it was easily fixed by calibrating it. Looks great now. Go to System Preferences - Displays - Color - Calibrate. Check off "Expert Mode" and you can go through it and adjust brightness/contrast but also the color temperature to your liking.
Yesterday I was in an apple premium reseller store (called McShark). It's the closest apple store to my home, so I thought I'll give it a try. So I tried the image retention test on one of their MBPr and I got the same effect as on mine! Though it's not as extreme as on mine, a look into the terminal said me it's an LG display.
One of the employees there told me, they replaced more than 15 models yet! I'm going to replace mine next week and hope apple will fix the problem. I'm also thinking of getting one of those expensive Apple Care plans, but paying another 350 bucks hurts!
Early 2013 15"/2.7/16GB/512GB
bought 23 April 2013

No IR issues after 24 hours of display up-time. Affraid that even this is 2013 edition, the old SJA1 can start to show up IR after some days/weeks?

Apple has just announced its results for the fiscal second quarter 2013. Mac sales stayed relatively flat year-over-year, dropping 2% to 3.952 million units, while iPod sales dropped 27% year-over-year to 5.633 million.
Institutional analysts had expected 3.99 million Macs and 6.2 million iPods for the quarter, while independent analysts anticipated 4.22 million Macs and 6.18 million iPods. Though Apple met institutional expectations for Mac sales, its iPods faced a substantially more precipitous drop than either institutional or independent watchers had projected.
iPod sales have been steadily dropping for the company, even as sales of its iPhone and iPad devices have ramped up.
By comparison, Apple sold 4 million Macs and 7.7 million iPods in the fiscal second quarter of 2012. In the first fiscal quarter of 2013, Mac sales were down 22 percent year-over-year to 4.1 million. iPod sales were down 18 percent to 12.7 million in FQ1.
Shares of Apple were up 1.87 percent to $406.13 on Tuesday. The stock has dropped over 33 percent over the past six months.
100 pages ago i participated to this thread since at that time i purchased a new MBPr on apple web site. After a week i decided to return it since i had an LG screen and didn't want to deal with IR trouble for that price tag. Even if the screen didn't display IR at all after multiple stress test.
Yesterday decited to try again but with a Refurbished 15" MBPr which got lowered down to 1669$ on apple store. Willing to see if it got refurbished for a screen reason and/or got a good one.
If its the old LG screen i might return it. But it look like a lot of people get their creen replaced now, and at 520$ rebate a might be more willing to take a chance.... Will keep in touch when i receive it.
Where did you buy your Mbpr? Did you buy at an Apple store or through the Apple online store? I ask this because you bought yesterday (April 23) and got an LG, SJA1 screen. I bought from the online Apple store on March 2nd and got an LG, SJA2 -- the newer, "revised" screen. So far, mine's been flawless. I didn't know the Apple stores were still selling the 1st gen LG screens.

I'm curious too because I bought mine not quite two weeks ago at a physical Apple Store and got an LG SJA2 screen I ran the red, gray and gray bump checkerboard test and all was good. Am running them again right now since the 14 days are almost up and so far, two of the three look fine.
I'm surprised that the SJA1 screens were still being used for the second generation rMBP.
I bought the MBPr at www.iStyle.eu the biggest Apple Premium Reseller for Eastern Europe, specifically Czech Republic (Prague), as there is no Apple Store available yet.
Now I'm not sure if to keep the MBPr and hope for non faulty SJA1 - are there also some without IR at all, even after weeks of use?
Maybe it is safer just return it and order new one directly from apple.com (shipping should be for us around 3-4 days), then there is big chance of new built (April) machine with SJA2.
Yes I ran the chessboard tests about 6x10 mins in last two days, without any problems and no IR at all. I had horrible IR on my previous mid 2012 MBPr (LG, they exchanged it to Samsung). But this Early 2013 with SJA1 seems to be fine. Not sure if the IR can start to show up after longer periods (weeks) of up-time.

Regarding the SJA1's and the potential for IR, there have been many on this thread (and a few I personally know) who haven't had any problems with the first gen LG screens. However there have been hundreds, perhaps thousands, who have -- and quite a few of those several months later. If I were in your position, I would return it and order one directly from Apple online store. For me, the months of uncertain worry and 'what if' just isn't worth it. And at that point, it's up to them, not you, to decide if it's bad enough.
