Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I got one back in August.

Had 1st gen LG display with really, really bad image retention.

I returned it to a apple service, they replaced it with 2nd gen LG and so far it is working okay - not yellowish, no retention. Not sure for how long, however.

In spite of mine got fixed (for now), I really began hate Apple (after years using Apple products) ...

On top of that, I tried to install iOS7 from my phone, installation failed and I lost all my contacts and pictures

Way to go Apple !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a 2012 refurb RMBP, it has a Samsung display, and no yellow tint or image retention.

Hello all, wanted to drop a line, it's been more than a year.

I have had this rMBP with a Samsung display for 12 months or so, after three other rMBPs with a total of 6 displays (one of them had two screen replacements at first).

My Samsung display is still fantastic. No ghosting, no yellow, no nothing wrong.

Amazing computer still!

How did you get Apple to agree to give you a new repalcement as opposed to just a screen replacement?

I argued, back in june or july 2012, that a 2.5K $ machine should be flawless, and that three different LG displays with image retention was pretty embarrassing . It was at the Montreal Apple Store in QC, Canada. I knew a few of the staff, and since I was back then considered a business customer, they were much more attentive to my arguments (I had the Apple business stafff talk to me, the black shirts back then).

What really made a difference is that they had a Saumsung and a LG rMBPs side by side on the presentation floor of this store (the largest in Canada, so they had quite a few rMBP demos). The irony spoke for itself. Perfect, and I mean, *perfect* Samsung colours and zero ghosting after 10 minutes or more, whilst the LG, yelloish and lame, would exhibit image retention after just about a few minutes, for everyone to see.

They say an image is worth a thousand words. Well, a malfunctining rMBP is worth many thousands of dollars, and I wanted perfection for that price. I ended up upgrading to the 4.3K $ machine anyways, with the best specs, once I got my hands on a Samsung. I have a historical record of all my misadventures with the six displays on four rMBPS, in the form of dozens of pictures of the issues.

My mbpr had image retention problems from day one and got worse. After 7 months i decided to go to service and they tested it. It failed and got a perfect Samsung. SO happy now.

This problem is becoming more of an issue now building websites and graphics. My warranty is up apparently. Has anyone been able to get this repaired out-side of the warranty?

My Refurb rMBP (2012) has an LG display.  Recently, it also began showing a defective pixel (which, in retina display terms, almost certainly means a CLUSTER of defective pixels). 

I'll be heading over to the Apple Store later this week to see what transpires...hopefully, I won't have to vent any frustrations on this forum and it will be a smooth process.

I bought a brand new & custom rMBP in August 2012 with the image retention problem. I bought the laptop in US and I live in Turkey.

I took the laptop in for a screen replacement today, because its getting worse each day. Apple distributor here told me that my international warranty is over.

Does this mean that I am left with a defect product?

So, you checked your display against a properly calibrated one and confirmed your suspicions?

If so, please post a side-by-side comparison photo so we can use it to start a separate thread about yellow Samsung rMBP display panels.

2. quality of the manufacturing process
3. cost of the panel you use
4. printer you use for hard output

*I'm not a graphics professional (and haven't been in many years) so I don't really care about tinting so much - adjusted my Samsung replacement screen by hand / eye (ie without a professional calibrator) a couple of times, but this is personal preference in my case and I don't need to have a graphics-quality screen.

Sad story - those of you from a couple of years back may remember I talked about a robbery at the one reseller I went to, to ask about their experiences with retina display MBPs. Stopped in the day before yesterday and found out that the same bunch of thieves actually ended up going in a second time and held the place up at gunpoint a few weeks later. Crazy.
