Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

    Mine came 3 days ago. It was Samsung Panel, no ghosting, perfect backlight uniformity, deep black, color a bit yellow but I did recalibrated it so my screen look quit good now.

    I guess this is why Apple keeps shipping these terrible yellow displays: people just accept them without complaining or returning them.

    I just wanted to say that I went through four 15" Retina MacBook Pro's (New fully maxed out Haswell BTO from Apples online store) and I was unable to get a single perfect unit. Every one I received had very noticable yellowing in the bottom half of the display while the top half on every unit was perfectly white. I asked my partner to inspect the screens and she saw the same yellowing in the same places as I did so I know it wasn't just me being crazy.

    My iPad and iPhone can display a perfect white across the whole display with no decernable variance. None of the 15" rMBP's I received could and so now I've given up and got a refund.

    I may try again next year if they fix this problem.

    Wow, that is really unfortunate.  As annoying as the ghosting is on my mid-2012 LG screen, there is no way I'd be able to tolerate that sort of yellowing, being that one of the main uses of this MBP (and, I'd imagine, a high percentage of people who buy them) is photo editing.

    "best in class screen" is a total shenanigan.  Sorry Apple, but you've just about lost even this most devoted fanboy.

    OK, here's my concern. I did the test on my NEW 13" RMP and it does have the image retention issue. Now it seems to go away after a few seconds. So is this something to really be concern with or is just OCD? A lot of people here are much smarter than me so I hope you guys can help.

    Many people report that image retention was mild at first then got severe months later.

    oh, that's not good.  thanks for the tip.   Anyone here knows how to ID my 13" RMBP display maker?  The Terminal command I found on the web didn't work for me.

    I think you need:

    System Preferences ->Displays->Color->Open Profile

    and scroll down until you hit "mmod Apple display make and model" and post the code you see in "Model".

    I was being told here my model number "0000A019" correlates with LG (I am on 15" late 2013 Macbook Pro Retina).

    quick question guys.  On my 13" RMBP, when I Shut down, I can see the ghost image of Mavericks wallpaper and my Dock just before it shuts down completely.  Does your machines do that?

    0000A018 = Samsung

    0000A019 = LG

    In my case the LG works fine (bright colours, no ghosting, no any other issues)

    That's image retention. Mine doesn't do that.
