Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

Just got my replaced RMBP back with a new display:

    doonot-mbp:~ doonot$ ioreg -lw0 | grep "EDID" | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6

    Color LCD

    LP154WT1-SJA2

    DCN342100BQFDR4AR

    Color LCD

No issues so far but I will keep an eye on it during the next weeks.

Just got a new RMBP with model # 0000A020.  Same issue.

Genius bar ran their test on both machine which to them, no issues.  But when I shut down the system I can still see my Dock and the Mavericks wallpaper on both machines.

How little of an issue would you change your rMBP for?

In the dark, late at night, I noticed that the lower part of my screen was definitely warmer, the left corner being particularly more yellow. When I say particularly, it is hard to notice. I asked a friend if he saw anything wrong, and after I said the colour or darkness, he did agree it was definitely darker.

I was trying not to look for anything, and telling myself I was just paranoid but I'm not stupid, despite what others may say who may just pass it off as nothing.

Does anyone also know how long I have to get a replacement with no trouble? I have an essay to finish in the next couple of days, and was reluctant to sort out a replacement beforehand.

    Mid 2012 15" rMBP

My first display was a Samsung - great!

Several dead pixels within a few days - not great.

A like-for-like replacement of the computer within the 14 day period - great!

Replacement turns out to have an LG display - not great.

No ghosting noticed for 11 months - great!

But now I do have ghosting - not great at all.

Screen replaced under warranty - ...!

Still waiting on the last one, I'll let you know... This is with Western Computer, a UK Apple reseller.

My Retina has developed IR that has been evident for quite some time. Also I have noticed that the LED backlight produces an audible buzzing noise when the backlight is dimmed. I have never experienced this before on my 2011 15" MacBook Pro. Hopefully replacing the screen will also resolve the annoying buzz.

My experience is, if the warranty has lapsed, you are out of luck unless you are in a country with stronger consumer protection laws than the US. The only way to find out is to take your machine into an Apple Store and find out; nobody here can answer that question definitatively.

Just got my second MBPR 13, and it cames again with the not welcome "feature" of IR

When I try to check for the display model with he command

    ioreg -lw0 | grep "EDID" | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6

    I got this output

    @.`0 6

    Color LCD

Later I checked it in the colorSync utility

    Manufacturer: 00000610

    Model: 0000A020

    Manufacture Date:CD238700

Not sure if its Samsung or LG, but honestly I dont care, I just want a not faulty display in my new expensive laptop.

Now Im thinking to return it again and Im really paste after waiting for almost a month to receive this second and also defective laptop (I bought it in the online store, 1TB, 16RAM, I7).

Should I return it again? Im thinking that even if the 14 days expires, since I have the waranty, they fix it anytime within the 3 years apple care waranty.

    Should I play the lotery?

You need to do the following as the grep doesn't work any more for newer models without discrete graphics:

    ==

    System Preferences ->Displays->Color->Open Profile

and scroll down until you hit "mmod Apple display make and model" and post the code you see in "Model".

I was being told here my model number "0000A019" correlates with LG (I am on 15" late 2013 Macbook Pro Retina).

    ==

As far as I understand 000A019 is LG and 000A018 is Samsung. But people here have reported 000A020 as well.

Btw: People have returned an LG  only to find out that their replacement Samsung shows signs of a yellow tint.

I have a 13" retina with model 0000A020.  Does anyone know what screen manufacturer it is?  When I was shutting pages down yesterday, a long horizontal line remained on my screen for a few seconds before it dissapeared.  Is that something I need to worry about?  I have just received my computer last week.  Other than the horizontal line the screen is beautiful.  There is a bit of light bleed on the lower left side but I'm not overly worried about that.

just returned a late 2013 15" rMBP yesterday. don't know what panel it was b/c the existing UNIX commands I got off google didn't work.  I would have tried this had I known about it.

In any case, i returned the screen b/c the screen was somewhat dim w/ a yellow/grayish tint as well as case creaking when using it on my lap

just picked up a 15" rMBP last night and the display is great.  000A022 which I believe is samsung.

had a big headache last night b/c used time machine to restore initially then used migration assistant to transfer iTunes library which messed up a lot of things.  had to uninstall/reinstall mavericks then restore from time machine again (this time, with iTunes library).

Odd, the first time machine restore (w/o iTunes library) took 2+ hrs to move 90GB over.  Then the second time (w/ iTunes library) took 40mins to move 120GB over.

In any case, screen is great!!

Got my rmbp 13" yesterday and guess what ? Seems to be suffering from IR too. The migration assistant window stayed stuck on the screen once it was done ... Should I ask for a replacement or just a refund and forget about this computer ?

When you rebooted, was a ghost of the Migration Assitant window still there? And if it is, indeed, IR and you decide to turn it in for refund or replacement, keep in mind that all your "stuff" is now on the drive of your new rMBP since Migration Assistant did its thing.

    Yep.

What should I do to format the computer ?

Should I ask for a replacement ? As far as I understand they are all suffering from the issue and I don't have the time to wait a month again for a new computer (there is a huge delay when you ask for 16GB of Ram) ...
