Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

just my experience from my local best buy christmas eve, they had 9 rMBPs in stock, all were "L" that's what the rep told me.  add my return to the list and they now have 10 "L's".

funny, when i asked him to check the serial number, before i even explained to him which digit to look for, it was as if he already knew what to look for...as if he's been through this before.

Not saying hyperpole but my brother's 13" late 2013 doesn't suffer from IR yet. It was bought in the same  week soon after Apple released the first new late 2013 models.

My 15" doesn't suffer from IR and yellow tint and production code correlates with week #43 in 2013. But i think mine suffers from backplate  bleeding.

Both screens are from the maker LG.

Tell them about your problem once the 14 days no quibble return policy has expired.

Use the 14 day return period and it's no questions ask and you are in the right.  Exceed that period and it becomes within spec. 

That's why I always visit these forums to know what to look for and the same on other products.  Everything is always going to have issues.  I would just rather know if it's an issue I can live with or not.  IR is not one of those issues I can live with. 

So I thought mine suffered from yellow tint...but when I tilted the screen back a little bit the yellow tint is gone! The extent of the yellow on the bottom corners varies based on the angle of the screen.

Anyone else notice this?

I think the whole thing here gets more and more esoteric. There is no proof that Apple has recognised the problem less so that they have changed the production line specifications and quality controls in the Far East in China.

I once read an interesting article about the anonymous peer review process in the scientific literature. Among other things they stated that in the majority of cases the authors of the original submitted article are dead wrong what they thought who might have been the reviewers of their work.

All we know here for some models (considerable number in percentage) there is a correlation between LG and IR and Samsung and yellow discolouring of the retina screens, respectively.

Thank you very much for the list. Assuming your mapping is correct, my 15" Haswell MPB was produced exactly one month before Apple announced it (letter 'G'). Anybody out there with an earlier MPB?

By the way, my machine is still perfect (except a very slight cracking of the case). Somebody told me, that usually the very first production line of a new product has extremely high quality proofs. This is, because all serious reviewers order their test products anonymously as a normal customer so that the prodcer has no chance to built special products for press. I dont know if this is really true in general or if this is true for apple in special, but it would be an interesting research to correlate the quality with time. Unfortunelty, nobody except apple is able to get suitable samples for this kind of statistical analysis.

That's a good point! Also the machines are produced ahead of time for the store displays. Has anyone noticed that all the displays in the Apple stores are Samsungs? 

So i went to the local apple store regarding the discolouration issue found on the macbook pro. The guy there was very nice. After describing what the issue was and showed him the pictures, he immediately told me to get me a new machine without even examine the machine in person. Now i have my new machine and it is perfect, the screen has no problems whatsoever. Overall I'm really happy with the way that apple store handeled my case.

Got my MacBook Pro Retina 15 today.

Week of Production: 50

Displaypanel: LG

No Creaking. No Yellowtint. No Ghosting after 20min checkered board test.

But... Backlight Bleeding from the lower left corner. The display is getting dark from the leftside to the rightside (beginning a few mm after the center middle).

I asked for an replacement because I am within 14-day-return-policy. I would like to know if this extends by receiving the replacement? Because when I'm lucky I'll get it next week, 4 days before my 14-day-period ends.

Got my replacement today. New 13" 2.6/16GB/512GO CTO and screen is A018 .... With IR. After 20 minutes on a gray background you can see the Safari window ... One more proof that every single 13" are suffering from IR. As it is pointless to replace once more I will ask for my money back. No more Apple product for me.

This is very much appreciated. A rigorous comparison of the two diplays is definitely needed. We don't know actually what the problem with the LG display is, and why the ghosting went undetected during the rigorous tests.

Well, after many attempts to get them to respond, Anandtech did nothing but completely ignore me, so I gave up on this quite few mths ago >.>

At least I'm now finally geting this issue resolved, I've left it very late (I've had my 15" rMBP for ~12mth now), but I've just been so busy this yr!

I'm about to make a appointment with a local accredited/recommended service centre, I hope they don't claim the screen is "within spec".

If they do, they better have a very good argument as-to-why they think that's the case!!!

Who is Anandtech?

So apple is still telling me to go to **** even after 3 repairs.  They refuse to replace or refund.

My credit card company is dragging their feet endlessly - I think ultimately they won't give me the money back because it was too long after purchase.

The credit card's extended warranty coverage is refusing the claim because they claim Apple didn't fix it right while it was still under the original warranty.  (Technically I am now into the 90 day extension due to the third repair but the extended warranty company doens't know that).

Any more suggestions on what I can do?
