Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

Have you guys had issues with multiple returns? If I return because it is too yellow, after having returned the last one for being creaky, do you tend to get resistance for doing multiple exchanges? Thanks.

You could ask someone like Quu on Mac Rumors about doing multiple exchanges.

Yes, yours is a Sammy. I'm in the process of exchanging mine (Sammy -- it's yellow and dim). Previous was LG -- the display was perfect but the chasis was creaking and did not feel solid.

    hi guys!

am planning to buy a retina macbook pro anytime this month but am quite discouraged as I read the complaints regarding screen/display issues. Can't afford getting a defective product and to wait almost a month for its replacement. by the way, the last time I bought a mac 'twas defective, waited a month for replacement. same thing happened to my ipad. head-scratching why such products end up to our shores.

If you live close to an Apple store you can buy a Retina MacBook Pro and keep exchanging them until you get one that doesn't have image retention or yellow tint or yellow corners or creaking case or dead pixels or exploding pixels. You have about a 1 in 5 chance based on what I've been reading. Or, maybe you could get a MacBook Air and have fewer problems. Or, if you want a computer that "just works," then buy a PC.

If going to a phsyical store, I highly recommend that you ask for the latest batch (5th letter of the serial number). It's pure conjecture, but the latest ones should have fewer issues.

I wonder if I would be better buying a Dell Precision with IGZO high-res display. Does anyone know if these Dells are having issues with image retention or yellow tint?

    Hi,

    I feel this display

    LSN154YL01-A01

    is dimmer than the LG

Also when I display a white screen it doesn't look as uniform.

    Anyone had the same issues?

Are the Sammies more rare than the LGs? This is my 3rd unit. I have had 2 LGs before.

Are the new LGs better thant the Sammies? Because at least my actual unit is IR free.

    regards

I haven't got a camera. But would need to ask a colleague who is an amateur photographer. Taking these kind of snapshots is quite difficult I guess.

I don't even know if it is backlight bleeding or not.

But it looks like the screen consists of 2 large tiles which are separated by the horizontal line. But it is only visible against dark backgrounds. My first attempt was to clean it off the screen but it is not dust or an kind of oily film residual.

For purposes of comparison, I took a photo of my RMBP next to the display model at the Apple Store. Looks like it's definitely yellower. What do you all think - can I do better with an exchange? Mine is on the left, display is on the right.

Not sure if it is yellower. It could as well be the indoor artifical lighting conditions though your left one looks ever so slightly yellower.

If you are within the 14 days just return it if not happy.

As far as we know there is no Samsung screen on the 13" and all screen used are from 2012 so they probably all have IR.
