Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I believe Apple should be ashamed of them self's , almost 5K dollars for a machine ,

A recall on all  LG batches is the right approach.

After 2 replacements I can confirm so far that Samsung panel seems much smoother , better , superior brightness

I have tested 5 Apple stores and all of them have Samsungs.  I invite all of you to go up to your local Apple store and check.

Profiles don't help, it's a weak band aide.  You will still have contrast issues and brightness problems.

I have noticed the screen ghosting ever since the 1st week of my using MBP (late june 2012). I agree with people here that the ghosting happen quite quick (15 minutes) of screen staying in one place. Typically it happens if I have a lot of white screen open (safari, email, chat, terminal) and it looks very obvious in DARK background such as the screen saver, or my dark screen wallpaper.

I noticed the ghosting typically stay on the screen for at least 30 mins, sometime more, but I think not more than an hour. After that the ghosting dissapear.

Kinda ***** that I will have to return this to apple. Its the hassle that bother me more than anything. But for $2K+ laptop, I may have to suck it up.

That's interesting .. Test a few of the non retina if you can

In 2009 MacBook pro 15 1440x900 there is NO IR.

In one hp dv6 no IR

In one netbook asus no IR

In one 17" screen no IR

In my rmbp with Lg screen... IR

Oh, in my iPad 2 there is also IR

Not at all. I guess it depends on which machines the store got. The Apple Store near me probably has rMBPs with LG panels since I can really easily produce IR on them, though, I really didn't check with Terminal commend.

The worst case of IR I saw from these LG panels is with faint color on it. I mentioned from my previous post. I went to the Apple Store last Saturday, opened Safari browsing webpage, and had a short (< 5mins) conversation with their employee. Then, I showed him the IR by spreading a guesture with thumb and three fingers.

Originally, I returned my first two rMBPs by demostrating Google logo IR to the Genius bar. Those IR images came with only light gray and yellow color. None of them have obvious color like what I saw from the demo machine on Apple Store last Saturday.

But I rather believe that would only happen on those first bad batch. What I concern now is if my LG would get worse over time or not. Since no one in the Apple could confirm this information right now.

I just got off the phone with Apple Care -  They are sending me a replacement unit for my custom build.  Should be here in a bit over a week.

The rep did mention that they are monitoring issues with the displays - they did not mention that the issues had to do with ghosting, which is interesting.  I pointed them to this thread and they put me on hold for a while (about 5 minutes) and got back on the phone and issued me a new MBP.  No cross shipping or anything, straight replacement.

Hopefully the new one that comes in will have a samsung display.

Amazing that I only found Samsung, clearly at retina level there are more of a variety - test the Airs and non-retina if you get a chance

Were you within the 14 day Return period or are you out of it?

Yes, i try to reproduce the issuse to my other display, only rmbp and iPad 2 have this problem.

In rmbp this show only after 30 min, in iPad 2 after 20 but in this day by day the problem become wrong..

Another iPad 2 haven't this issuse.. So i know the problem...

I could be wrong, but I don't think they will take a thirty minute test seriously. Even if it shouldn't occur. If you can show them visible retention after like 5 to ten minutes, then I think you are correct to receive a replacement. I do agree it shouldn't happen at all but the more replacements they give out, the stricter they will get.

By analyzing this last update of faulty or perfect display stats, it's pretty clear where we're headed. So far NO faulty Samsungs and besides weeks 27 and 28, all weeks have multiple faulty LG displays.
