Does anybody know what the test is and how I can replicate it?
Try this one from Mitch Malone (Run a game or create a video using Handbrake before running per FAQ).
Other tests:
- Backlight bleed: ( there are Youtube videos people have created with 10 hours of a black screen running to help you test this)
- Set the solid black background completely full screen and check under a pitch black environment (or extremely low light condition). If you notice any yellow or white bleeds and non-uniformed black colors than you have backlight bleeding.
- Dead Pixels — simple test designed to make it easier to detect LCD "dead pixels" (pixels that are either stuck-ON or stuck-OFF) by displaying a series of solid background color pages for contrast.
- Yellow Tint / Uniformity

- Creaking (Exterior): check if your laptop makes a “creaking” noise or is “flimsy” — this seems localized to an inch to the left or right of the trackpad and you have to push down more than you would if your normally resting yours palms. Also, lift the computer and put it back down to replicate it after doing it once. It's more noticeable when the computer is not on an even surface-such as a lap.
Aside from the backlight bleeding test, I've now run all these test multiple times (I may try the "dead pixel" one a few more times just to be 100% sure) but for the life of me, I cannot see any issues...
With the yellow tint/uniformity test, when I look at the 1st set of gray bars, there does seem to be a very very slight difference in tone/darkness i.e. the bottom one seems slightly darker overall, the 2nd set seems pretty much identical to one another, the 2x grey screens that come before each pair of gray bars look fine too. I'm really struggling to see any yellow on all four test patterns, there may be a very slight bit of yellow coming through, but that could just be my imagination, as when I look again (& again) I struggle to see it.
If anyone knows of better tests for these issues (inc. the backlight bleeding which I haven't tested yet, but the more methods the better), please do let me know! I also looked for muras, exploded pixels, & some other issues that were mentioned whose names now escape me (if someone can recall them please list them) but couldn't see anything like that, I also haven't tested for "freezing OS" yet.
N.B. I do definitely have the IR/P issue, but so far (finger crossed) it doesn't seem any worse than the day I first noticed it. Plus I've now implemented several measures that ensure it happens less frequently*, & when it does it's quickly countered.
Cheers.
*& is readily noticeable even less!
