Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

I don't know how many other people have a yellowish bottom left corner? which I think is down to ips technology. With a tn screen you can get a perfectly uniform white background but with poor viewing angles and colours.

The original mid-2012 Retina MacBook Pro displays were very even and bright and white. Then they all developed image retention and people got yellowly displays. So they don't all have a yellow left corner. My current late-2013 does but my mid-2012 didn't. I suspect that Apple is using these uneven yellowy displays because they are less prone to image retention so fewer customers are complaining.

Those pictures I posted earlier are actually really odd. Because when I have a black screen I can't notice those colors at all. But if I take it with a camera I do notice it. The only thing that is really noticable is the backlight bleeding which shows as yellow in the picture. My second screen (as posted) is a lot better with the bleeding than my first one and now I can barely even notice it.

Also when I have a white screen, there is no noticable yellow tint anywhere. Especially in one specific corner. It's very even, however others have reported differences with their screen.

I think I would take a screen with image retention over a yellow to red diagonal color shift display. If the image retention only takes place over longer periods of time it wont effect most operations. You could play it off as if it was one of the OSX on screen transitions.

I don't know how much longer Apple will keep LCD screens, as a technology IPS and alike always seems to have problems of some sort. Some of the phones now running OLED screens have very impressive color consistency, white point, viewing angles and power consumption. The things OLED falls down on is color accuracy and longevity. Not too long from now I can see Apple making the switch when the technology is ready. I think Apple is buying up patens and working with companies in this matter at the moment.

Yep... sent my rMBP in Jan/16 for the second screen repair and hopefully I'll get a screen with IR. My first screen had IR and looked way better than the IR-free yellow one. It passed one month since I bought it and I'm constantly dealing with technical assistance. Annoying... my worst experience ever with Apple... my faith is gone.

    LOL, now I've read everything.

Me? I'm going to be buying a new Audi tomorrow and I'm hoping for one with a faulty transmission. No no, I'd never consider buying anything other than Audi.

No kidding Apple is not willing to fix the issue if people are ready to buy it anyway LOL ... What a sad sad world.

Like I said there really is no color shift in my screen, it just caputured like that with my camera. I think for the most part the new LG sceens are a lot better. The whites are a bit darker than what it could be but its not even noticable unless you compare it to an in-store model. I don't notice any yellow tint.

Hello from Germany and sorry for my bad english in this follow Text.

I have a Retina 13" Macbook Pro Refurbished i5 2,6 GHz early 2013 week number 51 from 2013 and when i give in Terminal this command:

    Ioreg-LW0 | grep "IODisplayEDID" | sed "/ [^ <] * </ s / / /" | xxd-p-r | -6 Saiten

to will see what Display i have so is the answer:

    @. `0 6

    Farb-LCD

i cant see what Displaytype my Macbook Retina 13" have.

When i give in Terminal the command:

    Ioreg-LW0 | grep-i "DisplayVendorID"

so i become the answer from System:

    | | | | | | "DisplayVendorID" = 1552

and when i type in Terminal this :

    ioreg -lw0 | grep \"EDID\" | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6

i become nothing information from Terminal.

Now when i open the chessboard on my Retina Display for 10 Minutes and the screen have the Ghostings but only for 15 seconds and then disappear. Is this normal 15 seconds Ghosting or it is a basic to exchange it ?

We can i see on my 13 " Retina what Display manufacturer i have Samsung or LG?

and sorry for my very very Bad English.

    Greetings

    Bexter

    Geh auf:

System Preferences -> Display -> Color -> Open Profile  (for Color LCD) -> scroll down to 'mmod' and poste hier was Du unter 'model' siehst.

Mine (15" late 2013) shows A019 which according to the experts here correlates with a LG screen model. My brother his model (13" late 2013) shows A020 which corresponds once more again to the maker LG.

Post what you see and people will tell you what you got.

    Guten tag.

The 13" Retina MacBook Pro doesn't have a dedicated graphics procressor so the "ioreg" command won't show the display manufacturer. People have been identifying the display manufacturer using the following technique: open System Preferences > Displays > Color > click on Color LCD > click Open Profile > scroll to the bottom > click on the last item where the Description is "Apple display make and model information" > note the Manufacturer and Model values. These values could indicate your display manufacturer but I don't know which values correspond to which manufacturers and they could be different for the 13" than the 15".

If the 15 seconds of ghosting doesn't bother you then I would suggest keep it because you could end up with a display that has other problems like colour tinting problems or colour non-uniformity problems. But if the 15-second ghosting does bother you you would need to bring it in to an Apple store Genius Bar and they perform the test and if they see the pattern they will exchange it.

The official Apple test usually doesn't detect IR. You need to convince the technicians by yourself showing the Mavericks' login screen which clearly shows IR after some web browsing.

    Your Bildschirmmodel is A014.

Someone will chime in with some ideas what it constitutes and who might be the manufacturer.
