Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I also have a mid 2012.  I am really upset that Apple won't address this issue.  We shouldn't have to pay to get it fixed after spending over 2 grand on a laptop!

I have a 2014 13" rMBP that I purchased from Apple through Amazon. I don't have any Image Retention issues, but I do have a display with really uneven white-balance/color-temperature. Specifically, the left side of the display has a considerable pink tint compared the right side. I took it to the geniuses at the apple store after going through some troubleshooting steps with apple support over the phone, and the three employees who looked at my display claimed to see no issue at all and proceeded to not offer full repair coverage. They did offer to do a one-time display replacement, but that would not be a guaranteed fix and have the side-effect of preventing me from exchanging my unit through Amazon if the new display wasn't any better.

I could just get it replaced through Amazon, but if there's a high likelihood that I'll need to go through a bunch of units with similar or worse problems, I really don't want to deal with the trouble. Can anyone with more experience comment on whether I can reasonably expect to get a better unit through replacement?

If your Apple store is like mine, they just have stupids working there.   How is it you can get it replaced thru Amazon a year later?   If you don't have image retention then you should count your Apple blessings.

Well, it's not a year later for me. I just bought the thing less than a week ago.

I just purchased a mid-2014 MacBook Pro Retina 13" and tried the Marco ghosting test, and the grid definitely showed up, even after a few seconds. It's also a very yellow screen, which I've been able to fix a bit by calibrating, but overall a very dim and disappointing display. I bought it from Apple online, refurbished, so they just sent it to me. What's really shocking is my iPad Air has a better screen than this $2k laptop...

Has anyone found a way to determine the screen manufacturer in Yosemite? The terminal commands don't seem to work anymore.

I believe that command is only for the 15" Macbook Pro models.

I just talked with apple in an online chat today.  They still don't know about this problem, but it's all over the web!

Wow! I can't believe that this is still an issue...almost 3 years later! I'm glad I bought Apple Care. I'm going to take my laptop into a non-Apple-Store authorized Apple shop for a thorough set of diagnostic tests before my warranty expires. My display (which replaced my previous one which had IR) seems fine still though.

Hmm,

I think mine was fine originally, but it started to get worse the older it got.  I had this happen to a really old 20" IPS Benq panel.

Better test it well.

Yeah, I'm going test it tonight.

Google if there's a way to find out if you have an LG or Samsung screen.  I think there's a terminal command to do it, but I'm not sure.  I know I have the ****** one.  No apple care, it was too much.  Blew $2500 CAD on this door stop.

I originally had an LG, but, after discovering horrible IR using the checkerboard test, I brought my rMBP into an authorized Apple shop (not the Apple Store) and had it replaced with a flawless, and IR-free, Samsung. BTW, I just ran the test again and it's still fine.
