Casio Midi CTK 720 not recognized

I have a Casio CTK 720 Kayboard with Midi USB connection. It worked fine until a few days ago and then stopped being recognized. I have redownloaded the Midi Driver , still doesn't show up. It shows up in Audio but doesn't activate keys when in Garageband. I see old discussions but wonder if there are new solutions.

GarageBand (Mac) '11, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

I did it three times. The computer went 'ping' and ping again as I held down Command-Option-P-R keys. It still doesn't recognize midi. In the audio set up it gives me the option to add a device and the keyboard shows up but no midi input. Tried also in Garageband as well as FINALE to see if the midi keyboard showed. Hope that you may have other suggestions, was really hoping this would take! Thanks

I unplugged the MAC from the Back and then did the PRAM. This time however, I had to stop holding the keys as it just kept pinging and restarting. It still doesn't recognize the Casio MIDI Interface. I've real other discussions a few years old. As I said, it worked fine then suddenly disappeared. Any other suggestions, and thank you for taking the time thus far.

Hi Jane-

Did you ever get this resolved? I just bought a Casio Privia PX-150...love the keyboard, but I am having exactly the same problem you are having. Except in my situation, it never worked to begin with. I am using Finale 2011 (on my Mac Book Pro), and under MIDI/AUDIO it shows the Casio USB-MIDI is there, but with HyperScribe it does not "hear" the notes.

What did you finally decide to do?

I have been on the phone with Casio, but they do not seem to be aware of this problem... I have not yet tried the PRAM and SMC reset, but thought it was worth a try. If not, then I will send the keyboard back and get a Yamaha. The Finale folks said they have the same problem with YAMAHA PSR models... so just a precaution.

I never got it resolved and finally bought a small ION USB kekkyboard only for input. It's a shame as the Casio was much easier in that it is a full keyboard. I also use FINALE, now FINALE 2012. I'm on a IMAC Intel. Sorry, wish I could help and appreciate it if you make any progress as you're talking directly with them... I'm in Italy and that wasn't an option...

I have this same problem. Please post your issue to Finale. They need to hear more from us Casio PX-150 users. Please let me know if you have a fix for this.

Here is the conversation I am having with Finale.

#1.
USB MIDI
Casio continues the tradition or providing “class compliant” USB connectivity on Privia digital pianos. This allows Privia to be used with Mac or Windows computers without the need for downloading drivers. Class Compliant USB MIDI also allows Privia digital pianos can also be used as a controller the Apple iPad simply with the use of Apple’s Camera Connection Kit.

Finale 2012 was a fresh install last week.

#2.
I recall that there may have been some issues with the 'class compliant' keyboard from Casio in the past. I will have to check with my superiors as I believe we did work with Casio a little bit on this one.

I will let you know what I come up with. In the meantime, one other thing we could try is to see if it works in one of our other notation programs. Try downloading and installing Finale NotePad ( our free version of the software) which also has MIDI input support. Get the download here:

If you are unable to get the MIDI device working with Finale 2011, 2012 or NotePad 2012, we are most likely looking at an incompatibility issue the the MIDI device itself. Usually drivers fix this issue, but as you quoted from Casio, these keyboards do not have a driver.

#3I did a search on this issue, and according to one Casio Representative, your specific PX-150 uses a 'High Resolution' MIDI output which is unreadable at the moment by Finale. Our development is working on getting a fix for this, but it seems to have been an issue for a while now.

I will submit this as a possible bug to development for further review.

I have submitted this as a possible bug to development for review. In the meantime, I have heard of a few customer who have gotten their PX keyboards to work by using MIDI instead of USB. Does the keyboard you are using have MIDI out? If this is the case, you could purchase a MIDI to USB adapter (there are some on Amazon for $5-10) and then use that to connect to the computer. If you already have one, then definitely try it out.

The PX-150 only has the USB out. Not the standard midi ports.
