Problem SENDING email

Hi guys,

I loaded Snow Leopard just over a week ago and since then I am unable to send emails.

I can receive mail and the internet is fine.

I did move a few folders, by accident, whilst trying to back up some stuff before loading 10.6.8. Strangely, I can send mail using Web Mail? But not Apple Mail. The drop down message is:

Cannot send message using the server smpt.talktalk.net

The sender address <edited by host> was rejected by the server smtp.talktalk.net.

Select a different outgoing mail server from the list below or click Try Later to leave the message in your Outbox until it can be sent.

I deleted the old Pop Account and replaced it with a new one, same problem.

Help! It is driving me crazy!!

That just says it can connect. What does the Show Detail trace say while you are sending. If you are seeing an error dialog there should be the low level error reported in the command trace.

The error I see is you did not specify the proper authentication for the smtp server.

In the Mail preferences for the account, smtp popup, select Edit SMTP Server List. A sheet will drop down. Select Advanced tab on that sheet. You should, I assume, set the Authentication to password, and set the proper username and password. That's where the poper would be set if 587 is not the one you should be using. Maybe it is. I only bring it up since I see it trying to use port 587.

If you got this stuff already set correctly then I don't know. Mail has a problem in your setup. Maybe delete the account and recreate it from scratch.

Thanks, this also solved the same problem i had sending mail with talktalk on my new mac pro. I don't think I would have solved the problem if I hadn't read this.
