No. Why would you even want to do that if you're not in the US using their network?

I'll be back in the us in July. But that's not the issue. If I need to be on the AT&T network first, then I can wait.

You have to put an ATT sim card in your iPad, you have to sign up for a data plan to get one of those.  They will start charging you THE DAY you get the sim card, if you got one now, you would start paying right now.

The day you get back to the US, go by any ATT store and sign up, takes like 30 minutes or less to get the sim card activated and put into your iPad.

Thank you "lovemyusedipad"! One final question (I couldn't find an answer on AT&T's site). Is there a minimum term for the data plan from AT&T (e.g. 12 months or 24 months) or can I deactivate and reactivate after each one-month period?

Funny you should ask that, now remember I am in TEXAS and I don't know if it makes any difference as to state of residence, but I called ATT last week after I got my iPad 1 with 3g ATT, the young man I spoke with said there was no contract required, that I 1) had to be credit worthy to be POST billing (requiring a credit check)  OR 2) I could set up PRE billing with a Debit/Credit card with NO CREDIT CHECK required.
