My Macbook Pro speakers are crackling/skipping

Intermittent problems are the most difficult to diagnose. I would make an appointment at the nearest Apple store genius bar and see if they can ferret out the problem.

I had this exact problem...after some googling, I found a thread which suggested doing this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379. I tried it, and the problem seems to have disappeared. Hope it works for you, too.

try a qtip with the tip cut cut off, or a wooden (nothing conductable) toothpick and VERY GENTLY INSERT IT IN THE HEADPHONE JACK this might free up a microswitch that has hung up up and made a bad conection. THIS CAN FREE IT UP UP,s it can not make "up it's mind' as to which mode it wants to be in...digital or analog. Look for a red light light, or worse a blinking redlight. These micro switches are are becoming exremely un-reliable.

A good blowing of compressed air can not hurt as well.

If you decide to take the Macbook Pro to the apple store, try to use your phone or some other device to tape what is happening so you can show the genuis.

FIXED IT! At least on my macbook air 13" 2013. It may surprise everyone...Try adding a new user. I made a new user and the issue with the crackling in this video completely went away! Weird eh?

I tried this and it worked perfectly! Thanks for this suggestion! That cracking sound was about to drive me to insanity!!

In short this article tells you to shut down your computer and turn it back on holding down the Command, Option, P and R keys until the computer restarts.

Meaning you added yourself as a new user or just added a new user to the Macbook? This is driving me crazy, too, reflects so poorly on the product and company.
