iPod Touch connects to other networks and has WiFi but doesn't get on the internet... HELP PLEASE?

I have an iPod Touch that connects to other networks and has wifi BUT does not connect to the internet... i just got it yesterday so i havent put any itunes in it.

iPod touch, iOS 5

- Reset the iPod. Nothing is lost

Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

- Power off and then back on your router

- Go to Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings.

- iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections

- iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points

What do you mean by "Okay, but do i have to get itunes to get on the internet to make my imessage and facetime"? iTunes on the iPod is where yu purchase music and podcast and some other media.
