How do I make my Netflix have quality picture on Apple TV?

Pluged in my Apple TV with an HDMI cable to my HD TV. After logging into my Netflix account and picking a movie, it played, but the picture quality is fuzzy. The menu for Netflix is clear and everything works except for the unclear picture.

It depends on what you mean by FUZZY. Netflix movies are hugely complessed, which cause artifacts. While the movie quality is lower this does mean quicker streaming and less wait-times.

However, there are a few movies in the library are are just horribly compressed, or show badly compressed scenes. While other movies will not show any obvious degradation. I'm not even sure this is NetFlix's fault here.

I mean, the picture quality looks like it did on my old school tv. The Netflix menu is crystal clear but the shows are not. I checked Mad Men which says "HD" on the preview page. I also tried Killer Elite, and once the opening credits start, event the font is not sharp. Due to the menu being so clear, I wasn't sure if it was a Netfli issue or not. Could it be my internet speed? I have it through the phone & cable company, I think that's DSL. And I don't have Apple TV connected directly to my router so I'm not sure if that would make a difference either? I tried adjusting the stretch on the picture, but that didn't help either.

No, I think there is fire with this smoke. I too am having the exact same problem with ATV and Netflix. All other media works well, HD movies/TV shows on iTunes, YouTube, MLB network, Trailers, ALL of it! It all works flawlessly, so it is not the connection. Netflix picture quality is very poor. Whether it is HD or standard definition, the picture quality is simply awful.

I have been playing netflix via a computer with hdmi out to hd flat screen. Picture quality very good, sound quality ok- computer is laptop wifi 802n. Just got and hooked up Apple Tv 3 and netflix picture quality is soft, shaky, stuttering- I could not bear watching it. I hooked up my laptop again- and everything was fine- same wifi source. What a disappointment! I can probably cable the atv but that is not the point- it should work at least as well as my 5 year old wifi laptop.

I was planning to airplay hd content from my new macbook pro through atv- now I am very doubtful as to the quality (I want the best.)

Use Google’s Public DNS Server To Fix Apple TV Streaming Problems

1. Navigate to Settings >> General >> Network and select Configure TCP/IP.

2. Select “Manually” next to Configure IP.

3. Dont change the IP address or the Subnet Mask and Router Address. Just click "Done".

4. Set the DNS Address screen with the following: 008.008.008.008 and click “Done.”

You should now be able to stream more smoothly on your Apple TV.
