Q: Unable to import after newest update

Hi-

Updated to the latest version of Aperture. Now when I attempt to load photos from a card reader, it loads a few, then the "loading assets" gets hung up.

I have run the first aid- using the first two choices. I checked the hard drive and I believe I have plenty of storage space. Everything appears to be OK with my library (now that I know that the icons are supposed to be gray!). Just cannot import!

Any thoughts?

    Hi Jane,

     

    I have the same problem. After upgrading the library to version 3.3, I imported a batch of pictures I used to in previous version of Aperture.

    After this first import I’m not able to import pictures anymore! The import button seems to be without function, I press the import button and nothing happens.

    In addition to this problem I experienced another issue. When I DoubleClick a picture in the browser view I get a blank viewer screen.

    Looks like there's two (or three) different issues here:

     

    Crashing on import – Jane: Your config line says that you're running OS X 10.6.3, which means that you can't be using 3.3, or even 3.2.4 . Which OS and version of Aperture are you running?

     

    Cannot import – Christian: Do all libraries behave this way or only that one particular library? BTW – For the sake of clarity and brevity I'm ignoring the double-click issue for now.

    Hi Aye Es Oh,

     

    Woops, hadn't updated my profile... sorry. I am running 10.7.4 / Aperture is the latest update-- 3.3

     

    Since I wrote my original question, I restarted my IMac and was able to import 2 memory cards. When I got to the third, it hung up halfway though the import and read "loading assets" until I had to eject it.

    Have you done the library repair steps shown in Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics ?

     

    I'd at least do the permissions and library repair. Post back if that doesn't help.

    Hi Frank,

    I did run them...twice. I am able, at this point to load my CF Cards but my SD Card for my smaller camera gets hung up. I have a lot of photos on it, but I've done it many times before. Could it be my HD space? I think I have a lot of space... Why would it work intermittently?

    Hello Aye Es Oh,

     

    first of all I resolved my issue. I had the problems with the new libraries also, so the library repair option has not helped. The solution was to "Delete the user preferences" from the document "Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics". Now the import and the viewer works again without problems.

    I thought I was crazy but once I hit import, nothing happened and the viewer displays blank screen. If I restarted Aperture then the Viewer worked again but only until I called import.

    Jane – Have you tried importing from a different Apple program, say, Image Capture or (if you have it) iPhoto?

     

    I wonder if the problem is specifically with Aperture or if perhaps another update happened at the same time that may have messed up your import.

    Hi Aye Es oh,

     

    Well, I finally tried to import directly from the camera w/o card reader and it worked... My card reader slot for my CF card works fine but maybe my SD slot is corrupted? Worked fine up til now. Why would only some of them load from it, I don't know but for now my work around is through the camera. Everything else seems to be ok now.

    I'm having exactly the same problem with SD cards. I'm able to drag the files from the card onto the hard drive in Finder, and then import them into my library from their location on the HD; but I can't import them directly from the card. It brings up the first 15 images and then hangs on "loading assets".
