Time Machine Erase

I have changed computers from a Mackbook Pro to a Macbook Air. Time Machine has been backing up my old Macbook Pro and is almost full. How can I erase everything on the disk and start fresh with a clean 500GB drive to start backing up my new Macbook Air? Thanks.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.3)

Use the Disk Utility(or the AirPort Utility in the case of a Time Capsule) to erase the backup drive.
