Sep 17, 2012 11:51 PM in response to galwayttby ColJonSquall1,@galwaytt, luckilly mine still does, its just for me, the main conscern is the .msi file responsible for install and uninstall of itunes is missing. Anyone else having this problem on Windows, instead of trying the older version of the MSI cleanup utility, try this "Fix It" program Microsoft has put in place to replace that old version. As the old one caused problems. http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall

Sep 18, 2012 12:03 AM in response to RDF1173by ColJonSquall1,BTW, this works, I just ran it, to remove the iTunes install from the Windows registry, and now the updater is working again. now on iTunes 10.7
-
Sep 18, 2012 7:20 AM in response to RDF1173by soveryfaraway,Worked here. Updated now to 10.7 as well.
Selected Installation as the problem, and told it to fix the problem rather than to Uninstall. It indicated that it repaired a corrupted registry key.

Sep 19, 2012 5:01 PM in response to RDF1173by dnorthernlight,Kept getting invalid signature for itunes updates so decided to uninstall itunes. Obviously not a good idea...can't find the program data fiel for apple to do the fix recommended above. Did try the microsoft fix tool. No luck yet on my windows vista pc...any other ideas? I'd like to get the new iphone 5 but no way to make it work without itunes on my pc.

Sep 19, 2012 5:30 PM in response to dnorthernlightby ColJonSquall1,program data is hidden, in order to see it, go into the Organize option on the top left, then folder and search options, and under the View tab, click show hidden files and folders, then hit apply and ok. Program Data will be located under the primary drive. After setting the hidden files and folders to show, you should see it. If you don't see it in the drive, even after showing hidden files and folders, there must be a problem with your copy of Vista. only Windows OSes XP and before do not have Program Data as a folder.

Sep 19, 2012 6:12 PM in response to ColJonSquall1by dnorthernlight,Thanks but the file I was looking for is not there, from an earlier post:
C:\Program Data\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs - Right click on the Apple software Tool icon and choose properties. When I get to Programs list there is no apple software tool. (my show hidden files is checked)

Sep 19, 2012 6:38 PM in response to dnorthernlightby ColJonSquall1,oh, its missing the shortcut in the Start Menu list, as that's all that path you have is. Its a shortcut, try looking for the apple software update in its primary folder. C:\Program Files (x86)\AppleSoftwareUpdate\ and look for SoftwareUpdate as an application, If this is not there, its not installed on the computer, probably when you removed iTunes, it also removed the Apple Software Update, because unless there is an Apple program on the computer, the software update tool is removed. Try reinstalling iTunes, or grab Safari, or Quicktime, and it should give you another copy of the Apple Software Update program.

Sep 19, 2012 6:38 PM in response to dnorthernlightby ColJonSquall1,also, that path is for 64 bit computers, if its 32 bit, just access Program Files.

Sep 19, 2012 7:03 PM in response to ColJonSquall1by dnorthernlight, that's the heart of the problem, can't update itunes, safari, etc., cause of the invalid signature.

Sep 19, 2012 8:02 PM in response to RDF1173by ColJonSquall1,so even the manual installs say the same thing? then that's a different issue entirely.

Sep 20, 2012 6:26 AM in response to galwayttby HYTL,For those who cannot connect to the ITunes store - which was my problem, I found that I have been reading the wrong thread. This is an issue with the the Layered Service Provider (LSP). It is likely that you have a program monitoring the Winsock protocol that conflicts with the apple software.
The solution is as follows (as found on another thread):
Close your iTunes,
Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START>PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
(Win XP SP2 n above) - START>PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES>Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
netsh winsock reset
Hit "ENTER" key
Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:
Apple software on Windows: May see performance issues and blank iTunes Store

Sep 20, 2012 6:30 AM in response to HYTLby HYTL,I did the command prompt sequence and it did not solve my problem. Went onto the windows support website as advised and did the autoruns. It is my killer atheros bigfoot network manager that is conflicting with Apple Itunes. I went onto the killer network and updated my software and that solved the problem. Give it a try. That might be what we are complaining all the time.
