Transfer Songs

I am probably going to purchase a new Macbook Pro today and I want to make sure that I can transfer my music from my old macbook to my new pro safely and efficiently. What is the best way to do this? The only thing I want from my old computer is the music so I was thinking that I would just plug in my ipod classic to the new computer and hope everything works out. But I just want to make sure. Suggestions?
