Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

"Mac HD" does not show up in left pane when I try to repair with Disk Utility

got the flashing ? sign. tried to reboot, no luck. put in install disk, goat as far as Disk Utility to repair HD, but Macintosh HD does not show in left pane, so I can't select "repair disk" button to try to fix the problem. Any ideas welcome. I'm new at this but trying.

Unfortunately it could mean you need a new hard drive. Not even showing the drive means a hardware issue, perhaps bad drive, bad cable, bad controller on computer.


You can try a utility sich as DataRescue or Filesalvage which has free trial versions to check if even they will see your drive. If not then you'll need a qualified person to help you out unless you're into Do It Yourself and undoing about 30 screws.
