My iMac has stopped working, at first we thought the electricity went off but it was just the machine, I am now unable to turn it back on. The machine gets constant daily domestic usage and is a couple of years old the machine gets quite hot

My iMac suddenly stopped working, is there a problem with this model overheating, the machine is constantly in use every day including the weekends and often gets hot. This is the first time it has simply shut down.

Any help would be much appreciated

iMac, iOS 4.3.1

Absolutely nothing happens when I try and turn it on at he button on the back 100% dead. The machine has been on the same desk top for 18 months or more working without a problem but it does get hot. When it went dead I was watching a TV show which I downloaded and thought at first the scene had finished as the screen went to black, no noise at all.

If you hear and see absolutely nothing that sounds like the power supply has died. This is caused by dirty power normally so your next step is taking it to your local Apple Store or AASP to be repaired.

Going forward keep computers plugged into a UPS power that will clean the power and also provide for brown outs and other dirty power conditions. If you live in an area that is prone to lightning storms the best thing you can do is shut down and unplug during storm conditions.

I have this exact problem. My Imac is about 2 years old now. I thought the power went out and the computer is 100% dead. Does not turn on at all. It appears I am outside of the terrible 1 year warranty though lifetime warranty under the Australian consumer laws is always a bonus with clearly faulty products such as these.

Can you confirm the outcome of what happened in this case for me? 1) What was wrong with it when you had it checked and 2) Did Apple replace the product?
