Jun 20, 2012 9:42 AM in response to Poppydopsby planb77,★HelpfulAre you saying that the iPod only shows a white screen? If so, that's usually a good indication that the LCD display may be damaged. However, it could be a glitch of some sort. Have you tried a hard reset yet? To do this, press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
If still no luck, we'll try to restore it. Have you seen this article yet related to the 1418 error?
Sometimes a low level reformat of the iPod's hard disk resolves the issue. See this article for instructions on how to do this.

Jun 20, 2012 11:20 AM in response to planb77by Poppydops,Thank you for the information which has been very helpful and which I have tried to no avail. Unfortunately I think you are right in saying that the LCD screen may have been damaged. I have spoken with Apple who have been very helpful and I will be taking it to my nearest store next week. Thank you once again for the information, I have learnt a lot which I am sure will be useful.
