Q: Time Capsule used as External Hardrive Backup

If I want to use a Time Capsule as an external hardrive backup for my MacBook Pro, how do I do it?

What cords do I need and can I get it to back up wirelessly?  I don't want my own wireless from it,

because we already have it in the house - I just want my own storage unit and I have one, but no

cords to go with it.  Need to get cords - which ones?

Time Capsule 802.11n (1st Gen), Mac OS X (10.7.2)

Ethernet. You can pick them up at any dollar-store.

    Wireless

You will also then need to set a static ip for the ethernet connection so as to not interfere with your network/internet connection .. or at least make sure your network priority order is set correctly so wireless is above ethernet.

This is out of my area of expertise, but I believe you can set the Time Capsule up so it doesn't generate a network, but is on the existing network.

Then you can back up to it wirelessly.

You should still do the first backup via an Ethernet cable if at all possible, as it will be 2-3 times faster than WIFI, but then backups can be done without having to connect the cable.

Hmm, Pondini out of his expertise on a TC set-up... I guess I'm underthinking things, or **** Froze over....

Rockie, plug an ethernet from your rooter, into your T.C. Set up your TC to join the network as a client.

Then, turn off the WiFi feature on the TC by going to the WiFi tab in Airport Utility.

I think that's what you are looking for.
