Not able to access Aperture 2 files under Aperture 3.3. No options allow. What do I need to do?

I purchased Aperture 3.3 from the App Store. I have been using Aperture 2 on an older MacBook, where the library is on an external drive. I have tried to follow the example given in the Apple Support - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3945 - but I never get the option shown in the example. I have over 6,000 photos's and I do not wish to go through the pain of importing them and loosing for formatting that has been done. Suggestions please.
