I have a new Macbook Pro. Uprgraded from my G5 iMac. Yes, PowerPC. My iPhote library has been "upgrading iPhoto database" for 2.5 days. I have >10k photos. Is this normal?

No, it's not normal. Quit out of iPhoto and try launching it again.
