Uploading files from iPad to Dropbox and Box.net

The app has to be designed to link with Dropbox or Box. I believer Documents to Go supports Dropbox. I don't recall that Pages or Numbers do.

Pages and Numbers do not support Box and don't directly support Dropbox. There is a workaround for Dropbox, though. See:

You may want to shift to apps that directly support Dropbox or Box, though, as Meg suggested.

When in pages, for example, open the file that you want to transfer, touch the spanner at the top, go to share and print, and go open in another app, choose the type of file you want then choose dropbox from the choose app button 🙂

I just tried the pages/drop box route ... my pages doesn't give me the option of drop box. I can upload to Google Drive via the webdav function, but that's it. Is there a similar route for drop box?

I use Quickoffice Pro HD to coordinate my Dropbox, Box.net, Sugarsync and Google Document. You can open, edit and save document.

You can also drag files from one cloud to another.

Here's a path that works for me on my iPhone 5 (iOS 6.1, Pages 1.7.1, Dropbox app 2.1.1):

Open Pages, see the array of documents.

Tap a document to open it (or "+" to create a new one if necessary).

Tap the wrench in the upper right corner.

Tap "Share and Print" (first item) in the list of tools.

Tap "Open in Another App" in the Share and Print screen.

Choose a format (Pages, PDF, or Word); wait for conversion; I chose PDF.

Tap blue "Choose App" button at the bottom of the Open in Another App screen.

Tap "Open in Dropbox" in the array of app icons.

[app switch to Dropbox; "Save to Dropbox" view appears]

Edit "Name" and/or "Destination" fields as needed.

Tap "Save" button in upper right corner.

[The document is now in Dropbox. I received a pop-up notice on my Mac.]

How far can you follow this sequence, and what happens when you get there?

Dude, you are so awesome, and you saved me much trouble. What does everything have to be so damned difficult in Apple? With my Android phone, I can simply upload any documents I create into box because I can save them to my Documents folder. Why does Apple (iPad) not have the capability to simply save files to storage (rhetorical question)? Anyway, thank you so much for this answer.

It's a byproduct of the security model. Apps are kept at arm's length from one another and from each other's data.

Yes, I knew that about the security feature and that part is great. But for people like myself that aren't Appleheads, trying to figure out something as simple as how to store and retrieve a document should be easy. And the information on how to do just that should be easily accessible in the Ipad help section. It isn't. Not everyone coming over to Apple is an Apple-o-phile; some of us are still neanderthal PC users and are trying to transition out of PC-think. And since Apple prides itself on being logically and elegantly user friendly, this seemed a contradiction. It is actually.

What about: choose Send a Copy and email an Excel (or whichever format) spreadsheet to yourself. Then, open it in my email, click on the upload symbol, choose "Open in Dropbox," then Save to Dropbox. Badda boom, badda bing...

Works best for me:

1) Drive - can edit and then click

- menu

- share and export (select file type)

- send a copy

- select app (email it, etc or apps like Dropbox, Pages, yada yada)

2) Pages

- Hit the share menu

- Select "open in another app" (choose format)

- Select App

3) Docs to Go. I have the premium version and can enable the apps (Drive / Dropbox) to which I want to save from my iPad.

This is one of "those" apps that makes it on lists, etc.
