How old is the iPod? Depending on the age of the iPod and number of battery cycles used up, the battery may just be going through the normal wear and tear as all batteries do. How long does it last on a full charge?

How old is your iPod Classic?
After 3 years, most iPod batteries doesn't last more than 20 hours of continous music, or 2 hours of video. The lifespan of iPod Classic battery is about 400 recharge cycles, so if you have been charging it twice a day, it may not last 1 year.
If it is still under warranty bring it in to the Apple store for replacement, if it is not , they may charge you US$59. Alternatively you can get it replace at most 3rd party iPod service centres, for slightly less.

is the backlight on all the time? maybe you can adjust the settings so that it goes dim after only a few seconds after you select from the menu or adjust volume, etc.

The IPOD is approximately 6 years old. If I fully charge the battery and remove it from the charger it looses power within 15 minutes
Yes, the battery is going bad. You may wish to contact a repair shop to have the battery replaced or an Apple store can do it as well.
I have an old iPod Photo from 2004 that still holds a charge as good as the day I bought it although I didn't use it much the first three years I owned it.
Rcabalel, yes, replace the battery, ASAP,. before it leaks and corrode the internal circuitry of your iPod. It will leak, even if you leave it stored in your Bank vault.
