My external hard drive (Seagate 1tb) will not connect to my macbook. The last few weeks it's been acting up, it's been really hard to connect and it usually takes a few trys, it transfers files REALLY slow, slower than normal and sometimes it doesnt even transfer them, it just stops about halfway through. Now im getting this message.
The most likely possibilities include (1) Your drive is on its last legs, or (2) Your drive needs to be repaired with Disk Utility (in your Utilities folder), or (3) Your cable is faulty.

How can I repair it, the "Repair Disk" option is not selectable. It's gray-ed out
You have the disk selected over on the left side of the Disk Utility window? Is Verify Disk available?

I do have it selected over on the left side and no, Verify Disk is not available.
Well, if this were happening to me, I'd try the "initialize" option next time the little alert comes up. Note that this will erase everything on the disk. Or maybe I'd try a different cable, although this is less likely to be the problem.
Ok, I just reconnected the disk and it connected this time. Should I re-format it or something along those lines so it will be more efficient?
If it connected properly, you ought to be able to work it over with Disk Utility now. I'd give that a try first. Can't hurt.
