how do you turn off the lock screen if you do not want to type in the combination every time you check your phone? it's annoying and I regret downloading find my iphone.

Thanks! I dislike this upgrade, the graphics are flat. the worst part was the lockscreen. Now I can turn it on when I leave the house, instead of either draining my battery by leaving it on or constantly unlock it
Having a passcode lock has absolutely nothing to do with Find my iPhone.
Follow mbNoit's instructions to turn it off. If you have a Corporate Exchange account set up on your phone, you may not be able to remove turn it off unless you remove the Exchange account. Exchange administrators can enforce a policy that requires a passcode on all phones linked to the corporate Exchange Server.
If that's the case, you'll either have to live with the passcode or live without your corporate e-mail.
Goto, Settings, General, Passcode Lock -> Off, won't get rid of the lock screen but you won't have to type the passcode anymore, you'll have to type your passcode in to confirm you want to turn it off.
