Q: New 2012 Macbooks, Google Chrome, and Kernel Panics

I recently purchased a new 15" Macbook, non-retina.  I've experienced numerous kernel panics, sometimes giving me the "You must restart your computer" message, or sometimes it just freezes, causing me to restart.

They have all occured while using Google Chrome, and if memory serves I've had a YouTube or Newgrounds video playing during each one (flash related?), and upon starting up again I receive the same error report, each one including the line

"BSD process name corresponding to current thread: Google Chrome He"

I've seen a lot of other discussions and questions that have basically remained unresolved.  Other users suggest stop using Chrome and wait for an Apple update, and others suggest taking advantage of the 14 day no-questions-asked return/exchange period.

My question is, is this a problem that is affecting all new Macbooks?  Will getting a new one solve the problem? Is this problem fixable via an update, or is it a physical hardware issue or something?

The only solution I've heard is from another user who says they went to a Genius Bar and one of the employees said it was a problem between the Intel HD 400 graphics card and Google Chrome's flash and that it will be fixed in an update.

What should I do? Is getting a new one worth it? Or just wait for an update?

It's been a while since this thread was updated.  So, does Mountain Lion solve the four-times-a-day crashing problem with Chrome or not?

Aside from Chrome, this MBP crashes at least once or twice a day all by itself.  My 2007 era machine was rock-solid for five years and almost never crashed.  Gotta love progress.

I am loathe to "upgrade" to Mountain Lion, as I hate the fact Apple is iOSifying the Mac Operating System.  But if it solves my crashing problem, I guess I'll do it.

They are breaking with convention (Save as), and royally screwing over long time Mac users.   Rather unpleasant to open apps now, and always see the last documents you had open.   I do not want my OS that smart...stop trying to "help" me.

I actually haven't crashed since the Google Chrome update went through and that was before I even installed Mountain Lion. I have it running now and I am yet to experience the same problem. All good for me.

I have ML and my system freezes while browsing webpages with 3d rendering and also while playing games, for exemple Minecraft. Maybe 10.8.2 solves the issue.

I've been having the same trouble, but it only started recenlty. Happens when I use Digi CoreAudio Manager. I am on a 13-inch thunderbolt macbook pro, running 10.8.2. This is ridiculous Apple, you need to get your kernel together.

I am having a problem where it seems like my 2010 MacBook Pro is crashing and it's Chrome-related. Any updates on this from anyone that may be watching this thread?

    Hi

Surprised you're encountering this problem now. Google pretty much fixed the problem around the same time as the last item on this thread. Try updating chrome and see if that works. If it doesn't, try uninstall-reinstall.

I'm having this issue as well. Crash report has the same sentence:

BSD process name corresponding to current thread: Google Chrome

Chrome is fully updated at Version 30.0.1599.101 and deleting Chrome and reinstalling has had no effect. Any ideas? Thanks!

Well my MBP won't start up now so I'll have to figure something else out.

That's not a panic, that's a crash within Chrome, and Google will have to fix their bug.

For anyone else, the current version of Chrome as of this post is Version 31.0.1650.63, but that will likely change by the time you read this.

Exactly the same problem with me. Everything used to work perfectly & suddenly, while using Chrome, my computer started freezing up completely. I'm running 10.6.8 also. So not just you.

Unfortunately all my bookmarks and passwords and stuff like that are saved through Chrome, so I'm in trouble -.-
